Playback problems
« on: December 09, 2011, 12:07:43 pm »

I just installed the media center trial and I'm having playback problems.  My music library is all in WMA lossless and is very stable...I've been using WMP up until now.  Everything works using WMP (I checked with each problem).  I'm using Windows 7 SP1 connected to a Bel Canto USB Link.

If I set Audio Output to WASAPI, everything works for a while.  Then, when I hit play at some point, I get an error that the current format can't be played (44.1kHz/16 bit) and a resample suggestion.  I decline.  Restarting MC and rebooting doesn't correct this.  If I reset Audio Output to Direct Sound then back to WASAPI, everything is OK.  For a while.  Then, the problem happens again.

So, I tried using Direct Sound.  This again works OK for a while.  Then, in the middle of a song I get a playback error.  If I start the song over, everything is OK again...for a while.

Under DSP Studio I have bit depth set to source bit depth.  Does the USB Link need the 24-bit depth?  I have no idea.

Any idea why playback is unstable and what settings I should be using?

I looked up Bel Canto USB Link in the forums but did not find anything useful.

Thanks, Yaamon.

Our wiki has articles on Audio Output Modes and DAC Settings.

Try both WASAPI options.

Try adjusting the buffer in the second audio option.

24 bit is worth trying.

Would you mind installing MC17?  It's at the top of the MC17 board.

Did Jim's suggestions help?

To restate, try use 'WASAPI - Event Style' and 24-bit in DSP Studio > Output Format.
