Artist and Genre are list-type fields ?!
« on: February 09, 2012, 02:37:24 pm »

MC brought a new feature with 17.0.76.

Quote
17.0.76 (1/25/2012)
1. NEW: Artist, Genre, Composer, and Conductor are list-type fields.
2. Changed: List fields can be configured to use a standard edit or list edit style.  Existing user created list-type fields will need to be updated in Options > Library & Folders > Manage library fields > Edit Type > List if you want a list-type editor for them.

I don't get it. I don't see any changes. Where should I see them and how could I use them?

Can someone explain me how it works?

Thanks!

Enter multiple artists as:

  Sam Hatfield;Joe McCoy

You'll them see both artists in Artists lists.

Is this why I all of a sudden have (without changing any tags or any settings) "John Zorn; John Zorn" type tags throughout my library?

I have been retagging all over the place because of this.

I dont recall having any artist tags like this.  All John Zorn albums had "John Zorn" as Auto-Album Artist.  Now randomly throughout my library I have "X;X" artist tags throughout.

As an aside, at the same time I noticed a ton of missing album art.  There is a "folder.jpg" in EVERY single album folder.  Re-importing does not restore the art (it did previously), and I have confirmed the "folder.jog" are indeed still there.  ON by "add album art from file" can I restore them.

For some reason they seem related as both surfaced when I upgraded to MC17.

Thanks,
Patrick

Are you seeing fields that actually have "John Zorn; John Zorn", or are these calculated fields, or expression columns?

Look at a given tag in Action Window > Tag.

MC is now treating semicolon separated items in Artist, Genre, and a couple of others, as multiple items.  It used to treat these, for the stated fields, as a single value (the semicolon was just an ordinary character).

Yes, the tags have actually changed, but in a seemingly random fashion.

ALL of my "John Zorn" albums have always been "John Zorn" in Album Artist (Auto).  Just one album (of over 100) is now showing as "John Zorn; John Zorn" in both my "Artist" view and in the tags.  I only noticed it when scrolling through my Artist thumbs (scanning for strangely missing album art ironically) and I saw two "John Zorn" entries.  I expanded the thumbnail size and up popped "John Zorn; John Zorn".  The tags confirmed this.

I scrolled around and found a few others exactly as above.  "Peter Gabriel; Peter Gabriel".

For what it is worth, each one was missing art I could only restore per my post above.

Lastly, there are actually a bunch of these "missing art" albums.  Reimport doesn't seem to do the trick.  And every last one has a folder.jpg  It may be two totally unrelated problems though.

Thanks again for the help,
Patrick
