sort album by an artist by custom tags?
« on: February 09, 2012, 08:39:26 am »

hello, say you have an artist with 5 albums, 2 bootlegs and 1 live album, i'd like the album to always come first. Ive done this in foobar added custom tags and then sorted filter order by that, is there a simular way in j media center?

Quick response...

There are a number of ways to accomplish this; the solution will depend on your requirements.

One way, you could use the existing Keywords field (or create add your own user-defined field), and assign values which will be used by a view to present your albums.  For example, you'd add one of the values:

  Album
  Bootleg
  Live

to each of your tracks in the albums, and customize the view to set the sort order to consider these keywords.  Since they already sort the way you'd like, that would likely work just fine.  If you want Live to come before Bootleg, you could set the names to force the sort order:

  1. Album
  2. Live
  3. Bootleg
