Media Centre library naming conventions
« on: February 24, 2012, 11:50:52 pm »

Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone can give me tips on naming my files and folder structure in my media library's so they index correctly and make browing is easier in theatre view.

Music

I've got these filed on my drive under M:\Music with each album in its own subfolder.
Ideally from the MC interface if like to be able to click an icon for the artist (e.g The Beatles) which then takes me to their albums. This currently works for some of my music but not all. When it doesnt work the artist is listed multiple times (i.e. once for each album)...

1. How should I name my music folders (which are all flac albums btw). e.g. Artist / Album / Year or Artist / Year / Album. Are there special characters to use. e.g. - / *. Any other tips?
2. Is there a particular folder structure I should employ? Music/Album or Music/Artist/Album

Movies

I'd like to do the same for my movies. e.g. click on Star Wars and it takes me to the 6 episodes. Same priniples as for my Music

Thanks,

Bassmann
