MC Crashing On Two Different Machines
« on: February 24, 2012, 03:28:02 am »

I run MC across three machines with my HTPC acting as a server and a desktop and laptop as clients. Two out of three of these machines suffer repeated crashes from MC.

My HTPC / server often crashes when starting videos or TV. This can happen two or three times in an evening.

The desktop which I use to listen to music has crashed about five times in the last ten minutes. MC was idle a moment ago while I typed this and it crashed. I can at least use MC on my other computer, it's uselss though in this case.

I am running version 17.91.

Turn on logging and post it here. It will probably give us some clues.

This is the end of the log for the crash on my client machine. The program was not doing anything at the time of this crash.

I believe you're describing two different problems:
1) Video playback issue
2) Crash on a Library Server client

Your log is from #2.  For that problem, what happens if you unselect Media Network > Client Options > Automatically sync changes made on client back to server?

As far as I can tell that has solved problem #2, as I was able to listen to music without a hitch this morning. But the problem has tended to appear intermittently, so I'll just keep my fingers crossed.

I will get a log from the next video related crash and post it for problem #1.

Thanks.

I've been a bit busy to get back to this, but the video related crashes have been consistent, at least one per eveing during a viewing session. So I hope we can resolve it now.

The crashes always happen when I am starting video. MC hangs briefly with the loading timer icon on screen and I can predict the crash.

I'll start by posting the end of a crash log.

Red October Std or HQ?

Update to build 99 if you have not.

Bump

Still having this issue on 17.103.

I don't think I was entirely accurate when describing my filters. I use custon, everything is set to ROHQ, except TV which uses EVR.

I have also noticed that the crashes usually happen when opening a video file after I have watched TV trhough MC.

I was under the impression that solving crashes was considered a priority. Is this issue unresolvable? Two or so crashes per evening on my  HTPC software isn't really acceptable.

I think that the guys at JRiver have had some time off the latest days. That might be why you have gotten so slow response. Yes, I've gotten the impression that bugs like this is a priority.

I do not have much experience here, and I can't see any obvious things in the logs. Have you tried to run RO Standard, just to figure out if there are some HQ components messing up things? I think it would help very much if you could try to change certain things like different Video and Audio settings, so we could narrow it down a bit.

Try RO Std, as MrHaugen suggests.

RO Standard seemed to make the crashes more frequent. In fact 100% of changes from TV to video files caused MC to crash, it hasn't been nearly as frequent on my previous configuration.

This might be pretty far out there, but who knows... Have you tried updating drivers for the Graphics card, and possibly the soundcard? Direct X could also be outdated if you notice crash in theater View it self. Seems to me that this crashes only happens on video playback though. So, in that case, it should not be the case in my experience.
