Can't connect for the life of me.......

When I test connection I get:

5/06/02 19:17:52 - sharer starting
05/06/02 19:17:52 - Initializing server.
05/06/02 19:17:53 - telling web central we want to share
05/06/02 19:17:57 - web central status regarding sharing 200
05/06/02 19:17:57 - web central body regarding sharing ok

05/06/02 19:17:57 - Server initialized
05/06/02 19:17:57 - sharer ready to accept connections
05/06/02 19:19:29 - web central status regarding sharing 200
05/06/02 19:19:29 - web central body regarding sharing Music01 couldn't connect to you for some reason.
this is probably a firewall or a NAT problem.

cannot connect

05/06/02 19:19:32 - Music01 web central does not want me to share

Can anybody help, please?

No more Music01 streaming, even on a test basis.

Please update to the latest build of 8.0 if you want to use Media Server to share your own files with another PC in your home.  See the downloads page for a link.

So can I assume that I have to buy on speculation that it will work with my setup? Sounds risky to me - especially with my experience so far. It would be better to allow a shorter trial. Can't help feeling this is pretty poor to be sold a trial on one basis and then find that is not the case at all!

I don't understand.  If you're using 7.2 now, you can use the 8.0 beta (on our downloads page) for 30 days without paying.

Yes Jim - and when I do use it (only three days into trial) I got the original message when trying to connect with 7.2. Now with version 8 I simply get a dialogue box saying can't connect.

8.0 won't connect to Music01 server.  You have to run Media Server and it has to be from the same version of 8.0 (latest on both sides).

I think you can ignore the "test connection" option now.

Hi Jim

Have set up 8.0 at both ends, trying to connect through tools, media server, enter IP address - and can't connect. My firewall at home isn't the problem, and everything is operational at both ends....is there something vital that I am missing?

It must be the same build on both sides.  8.0.266 is the latest.

If it doesn't connect, it could be a firewall problem.

Try connecting locally.  From MJ running on one machine to Media Server running on the same.

Thanks Jim H, finally got everything working. However, it appears that my cable net service (in Australia) doesn't like people using their connection as a server! Listening to any of my files is impossible because streaming breaks down every 1.5 seconds. I assume that is my broadband provider's doing - what do you think?

Certainly possible.  Some ISP's forbid servers on home connections.

Breaks in streaming could also be from playing a file that is too big for the pipe (nominal or actual bandwidth).
