Author Topic: Video stutter of bluray on with subtitles turned on??? [solved]  (Read 2084 times)

Can anyone help me out?  I thought I had finally nailed down all my issues with the HTPC, but have one more.

I have blurays backed up as .mkv files (I use clownbd + mkmerge to rip the video, PCM audio, and English subtitles of the main feature).  Every thing seems to be working fine until I turned on the subtitles for the movie.  When I play back with subtitles off... video is perfect... but when i turn subtitles on, I get a slight stutter in the video each time a new subtitle appears.  I thought it might be the way I ripped the file, so I went back to an .iso of the original disk and the same thing is happening.  Just to test things further, I ran the .iso thru Arcsoft and it seemed fine with or without subtitles.

Can anyone help me here?  The stutter is just enough to be really annoying.  I'm running on a Dell XPS15 with a i7-2630QM paired with a Geforce GT 540M so I think I should have plenty of horse power?

Help please... so frustrating when I thought I had finally figured it all out.

Ummm.... never mind.

It appears I had configured the laptop to use only the integrated graphis... when I resolved this and used the 540M graphics everything was fine.

DOH!!!

Well I'll revive this topic.

I have the same problem running on an AMD Athlon II X2 240e with 4 gigs of memory and an integrated AMD gpu on the motherboard.
Playing Star Wars blu ray-discs with subtitles on causes stutter.

The CPU usage is around 40 % (I run Room correction, EQ-filters and convolution as well + JRSS). Hardware accelleration is turned on.

Any suggestions?

The integrated GPU is probably not powerful enough, not much can be done to solve it.

Thx for your reply. I'll check up on it when I get home from work. It supprises me, though, since it despite lack of power is supposed to hardware decode h264, mpeg2 and mpeg4 videos. How subtitles can bring it to a crawl seems strange...

But you may be right... no need to think an onboard GPU can make wonders  :(

Try to turn hardware acceleration off. Also check with GPU-Z are you running in right clocks and how much memory/power you are using... Try to use something else than madVR as your video renderer (GPU heavy). Have you tried Red October Standard? And when using subtitles, are you sure that you have turned off anti-aliasing?

I can watch blu-rays with my 4200 integrated just fine...

Preliminary "research" seems to indicate it was the memory buffer that was too low for the integrated GPU. Set to 512mb makes blu ray smooth as silk. Thanks for the help.

Where is that GPU memory buffer setting?

For integrated GPUs, usually in the BIOS somewhere.

Indeed, that is where I changed it as well.
