Hi there, first of all I must say I'm glad to have the old media server system back..it fulfills my needs that music01 didn't. And secondly, MJ 8 is superb!!!!

Now my question....is it possible to get Media Jukebox to automatically connect to a server on startup?

=Thanks

Try adding:

/Connect myserver.com:81

to the command line. (of course, add your own info after connect)

Hope that does the trick.

Thanks Matt for the super quick reply. Unfortunarely, its not working all too well. Indeed the command line does get it to try to connect to the server, but it fails to connect. I definately am using the correct servername and port, and can connect perfectly through the programme.

Any ideas?

What is the entire string you're using?  Change the names to protect the innocent.

This is the string I'm using

"C:\Program Files\J River\Media Jukebox\Media Jukebox.exe"  /Connect 999.999.23.75:81

Try moving the second quote to the end.

Tried that, and windows(XP) feels that it isn't a valid shortcut, and therefore wont let me do it. I also tried putting the last part in its own quotes, and just the IP address in its own quotes..

No idea.  It's probably a Windows syntax problem.  Try MS or Windows Help or google search.

Thanks for trying...

I have tried everything right down to this command prompt

C:\PROGRA~1\JRiver~1\MEDIAJ~1>MediaJ~1.exe  /Connect music.mydomain.com

and it still fails. It tries to connect to a server, but doesn't seem to get the correct name parsed..it would be good if the error message "Can't conect to server" contained the server name it can't connect to.

Anyways thanks for your time.

Is there any chance you could add an option of "connect to server at startup" in.

Otherwise, I have noted that some programmes use colons in their dos switches...such as mediajukebox.exe /Connect:myserver.com:81

My plan is to have all my mp3's on one machine, which is why I want the server to connect on startup..the users of the other machine are novices, so it has to be as transparent as possible.

The correct form of the command is this:

"C:\Program Files\J River\Media Jukebox\Media Jukebox.exe" /Connect m01p://somemachine.jriver.com:81

Note the m01p://

If you enter this portion into IE, it will also work:

m01p://somemachine.jriver.com:81

And if you then drag the icon preceding the command from the IE dialog box onto your desktop, you'll have an easy way for novices to use it.

Note that we discovered a bug in MJ 8.0.261 which requires that it not be running when you make the connection.  It will start automatically.  The bug should be fixed shortly.
