Can't find my handheld devices anymore?
« on: January 03, 2013, 06:28:46 pm »

Version: 17.0.189.0
Win8x64

MC seems to have lost it's ability to detect any portable devices apart from the dvd burner
It can't see my phone or zen as a portable device
I can add them manually, but they're gone the next time you start MC
Everything else works fine
Uninstalled, reinstalled, run as admin

Pretty sure it did work in Win8, but not 100%

They're all there in explorer, the same as always, but no joy with MC

Any ideas?

Did you try Tools/Options/Handhelds/Redetect Devices?

If so, there may be a security setting or program getting in the way.  Handhelds work on Win8, as far as I know.

Yep, doesn't do anything - the dialog closes, and still no devices

Clicking on sync handheld in the action windows just results in a dialog with a spinning circle
And it just spins and spins until you cancel it

Theres a log of me adding the device manually, closing and opening MC and the device not being present
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/17024916/MyUploadedStuff/Log%20of%20me%20adding%20the%20device%20and%20it%20not%20being%20there%20when%20MC%20restarted.txt

[edi]
And if a SysInternals ProcessMonitor log is any good to you
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/17024916/MyUploadedStuff/ProcessMonitorLogfile.CSV
or
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/17024916/MyUploadedStuff/ProcessMonitorLogfile.PML

You can see in that log that is reads the manually added device from the registry
But then never seems to use the information anywhere after that

Right, I've found that it takes about an hour before it'll find the devices
Log-> https://dl.dropbox.com/u/17024916/MyUploadedStuff/Log_Finally_Found_Them.txt
(I'd cleared it a lot while I was waiting)

After almost exactly one hour from starting it - ping they all appear

On line 4761 onward there's the pertinent information
