Skipping, unreliable playback with DVD folders
« on: January 03, 2013, 02:09:57 pm »

I have trouble playing back DVD folder copies (dvd folder structure - video_ts folder inside movie folders). There are times when the video freezes but audio continues and there are times when the entire thing is just stuck. Stop or back is the only option that works. The entire media is served by an unraid server connected on LAN. However, 1080p movies and bluray disc folder structure copied (similar to dvd's) work fine. So I do not think it is a bandwidth issue.

I searched the forum for similar issues and didn't find any relevant post. I assume this is a peculiar problem in my case.

Any thoughts on what could be causing this problem?

Just as a test, perhaps you could copy one movie to MKV format and then see if it plays. I'm wondering if DVD navigator is to blame. The free makeMKV program will copy/assemble everything from your exisiting folder structure without harming the original.

That's a good thought and I tried that already. It is not the content but the dvd navigator of MC18. I end up switching to VLC to play the dvd folders and it plays well the media that MC18 cannot.

Looks like version 106 was just released and corrects issues with DVD plyback. Hope that fixes your problem.
Good luck.

Enabled 'Unstable' releases to get this v106 update. This seems to have started addressing the issue of dvd folder playback but it hasn't been fixed. The improvement I see is I can try either fast forward or next chapter to skip the dvd menu entirely to jump to main video. Many times this seems to work but I found few dvd folders where this doesn't work (similar to previous release version). For the dvd's folder structures that don't work, I sometimes have to force quit MC18. VLC or Windows Media Player appears to handle these folder structures without problems.

Do the development team know of these issues and are they planning for a fix?

Thanks for the update.

Yes, developers are aware. There's some discussion over at the beta section of the forums.

Can you point me to the forum or better the discussion on this? I looked around a bit and didn't find it.
I have a fair number of dvd folders that are unplayable currently. Would consider the beta version if that provides a fix.

106 is the latest beta version - meant to correct known issues with DVD playback. I have not seen any issues with DVD palyabck myself - so it appears the problem is not exisitng on everyone's HTPC systems. That makes it harder to fix. I suggest you attach a Log to your next post - that might help the developers find the problem.

I'm afraid its in a restricted area of the forums for beta testers and developers. This thread was linked as an example, see if that provides any help for you.

That is an interesting discussion thread, the problems I am having appear to be the same as the OP in that thread. I have Red October HQ enabled and I think madvr is automatically enabled with this option. I will try reducing the Red October to standard. Do I need to change madvr configurations with this options? I have previously looked for the madvr options but did not find an option with this name. Where do I find the settings for madvr (is it simple referring to the display frame rate settings?)

MadVR settings can be accessed when you're playing a video under the right mouse button menu, DirectShow Filters. Or when you exit full screen from the MadVR icon in the Notification Area.
