The Skinny on Skins...
« on: April 11, 2002, 04:08:31 pm »

I just wanted to make a few quick comments about the new MEGA-ME skinning system.

First off, we're still working on it.  It will get faster and more stable with each release.  When it's finished, the display performance may actually be better with skinning on than with it off.

Secondly, there will be an option to disable MEGA-ME skinning.  It won't be there for a while though, because we want to force people to beta test it. (sorry)

Lastly, the current skin is only a test of the concept -- we know it's ugly.  Please keep in mind that the whole point of skins is that you can change them.  If you hate blue, just hang in there for a little while.  Shawn has already cooked up some nice alternatives, and many more will follow.

Hoping that clears some things up, and thanks for all of your continued support.

Matt

I really like the new looks you guys are brewing up. Just curious about how they will be handled in the future releases. Are they going to be in a skin manger like mini-me skins currently are? Just check and choose type of deal is what I'm getting at.

We're not sure, but probably a little like mini-me skins.

It's like in "What About Bob?" -- baby steps.

I like everything but the topmost bar.  At 1024x768 the minimize/expand/close boxes are so tiny that I have to work to put a mouse pointer on them.  A few pixels wider would be helpful.

I really like the all blue skin.

It reminds me of the water.

My normal desktop theme is blue as well, so it fits nicely.

I would think higher than 1024x768 you might have some issues with the buttons. However, I did put up an alternative with bigger buttins. I will consider that when making others. I also posted a ( in my post for downloading alternatives )skin I modified that was done by treetrog for windowblinds. I also emailed him asking if we can publish it, once I get everything the way I want it. Like Matt said this is just the begining. I felt we needed to put alternatives out for those who can not handle (like myself, lol) the all blue skin. Hey, I love blue, but uh, err...

Got many ideas, but limited until we get more features to the skinning completed. Right now though I believe our main focus is getting everything else working properly.

Matt,

Will it be possible to add backgroud images (in the main list window for example) in the
final version of the mega-skin engine ?
Or, is it already possible ?

thanks
