I always get the "Analyzing Devices.." pop-up after the first time I Right-Click anything in the tree view.

This has been happening for that last few betas..
Is it "normal"?

Other than that, it seems better than 246. Next Page

Mega-Me Skinning Bug:
1. You can not drag the upper-left or botton-left window corners diagonally to resize the MJ window frame.  The upper-right and bottom-right corders do work.
Update:
Nevermind...it appears to work...just did not get the mouse cursor in the right spot (lol).

2. Using inline renaming (field edits) in the playlist, it is hard to see that you are renaming because the background doesn't change color during the edit (only a cursor input prompt appears). See (trying to rename 'Name Of The Game'):

The installation failed with the file "RegControl.dll" in C:\Program Files\J River\Media Jukebox.
So far everthing seems to be working. What does that file do? Should I try to re-install?

I have to say it looks great, much more "commercial".  Also it seems to be working fine so far on XP.

Guys,

Still have the same ol' bug here. I still get repeated dialog boxes of "critical error: media jukebox failed to open the database file 'mediafiles.jmd' for saving. (a file could be read-only or corrupt). yes, i know my file is read only, and i dont need to be reminded every few seconds. one dialog upon startup would be just fine. so, who do i have to pay off to get this one fixed?

in other news, when i go to "skin manager" and click on "browse" the whole application disappears.

and a request: i use the "dirt simple" track info on my client laptop. since the screen is wider than it is taller, it would be nice if the track info were to the right, or left of the album cover. right now, i cant see the whole info as it gets covered by the playlist window. i guess this is all editable in the visualisation studio now, so i can just fix it myself.

thanks

When selecting a song in "playing now", it gets highlighted,
When the next song starts playing, the currectly playing song is highlighted too, but the original selected stays highlighted.

>>>>>>>>>"dirt simple" track info on my client laptop. since the screen is wider than it is taller, it would be nice if the track info were to the right, or left of the album cover

In DJ/DJ2, notes "word wrap" vertically, so you can scroll down and read them. They don't word wrap in MusicEx or Dreamstate, but instead run off the right-hand side of the page. As there is no horizontal scroll bar option, this leaves the notes unreadable. Also, in DJ the album art box is fixed, so that it remains constantly visible regardless of the length of the notes section, but in DJ2, the album art sits at the center of the notes section, so the picture is not always visible when the notes section is long (you have to scroll down to the mid-point of the notes to see the picture). If the notes section is very long in Dreamstate or MusicEx, the picture frame is pushed off the right hand side of the screen and therefore inaccessable due to the lack of a horizontal scrollbar [making them all word wrap and keeping the picture frame always fixed would be my preferred solution].

yes. And the MJ screen flickers quite a bit when performing tasks such as ejecting a CD, and the frame around the progress bar flickers quite a bit when ripping/converting, as the progress bar itself sort of hops along not quite smoothly.

previous bug retraction

I reported elsewhere that the rear speakers of my Klipsch ProMedia 5.1 speakers would not play in MJ8 (as they did in MJ7). Well, dumping the SB Extigy and returning to the TB Santa Cruz solved the problem. In an act that we will likely come to associate as the self-flagelation of the digital age, I re-installed the SB card and flagellated (fiddled with connections/settings) until I could stand it no longer, and having recovered after briefly losing consciousness, I hammered a wooden stake through the heart of this devil's spawn so that it would no longer be capable of inflicting any further suffering upon the innocent.

-Slider bars, all menu's not skinned.

-Bottom cut off the burner controll, starting about half way through the Options button.

-The lines that appear when you resize columns don't go away fully and leave artifacts.

-The volume slider does not change color when muted anymore.

...Presume that some of the skinning problems are NT specific.

- I'd like to vote in favor of being able to disable mega-me skinning. I'm getting a LOT of flicker, and things seem slow, and while I recognize that this is probably a video driver bug, I'd really like to be able to turn it off.
- The default mega-me skin is way to blue for my liking :->
- The position slider in mega-me mode still doesn't update unless the cursor is over the player sub-window.
- There doesn't seem to be any way to display track info when playback is stopped.
- On WinXP, there is no entry for MJ8 in the task manager Application tab when in mini-me mode
- Microsoft Internet Keyboard Pro, WinXP - pause/play button, when MJ8 doesn't have focus, seems to be working now, with one small nit - when I use this button, focus moves to MJ8. This doesn't happen with any of the other media buttons (stop/next/previous)

I'm playing with Windowblinds and MJ seems to react particularly badly with it. You get the MJ title bar until you move the mouse over it, then the Windowblinds one appears. I'd like to vote for a Remove Mega-Me skin too, which would leave everying the Windows way and let my skin or colour theme handle MJ's appearance.

I agree with dwex - please provide an option to enable or disable MEGA-ME skinning.

White text on dark background is rough on the eyes, the menu colors don't match, my desktop icons get messed up, etc.

This way we can read the book while you work on the cover. (huh?)

Looking good though. This version 8 is progressing amazingly.

MEGA ME Skinning : I am experiencing absolutely no bugs in regards to this (besides the ones I posted about earlier that I'm assuming are just "not finisheds" - there's a word for you... "finisheds" not a typo it was on purposes). I would recommend a "Disable MEGA-ME Skinning" option though, that actually disables it and not just repaints it with the standard Windows look, if only because I'm sure it'll wreak havoc with other skinning applications like WindowsBlinds and StyleXP.

bennyd> That's not a bug. That's by design based on several requests for seperate highlights for currently playing and currently selected (I'm 97% sure).

MHorton This cracked me up. Thanks. Next Page  "I hammered a wooden stake through the heart of this devil's spawn so that it would no longer be capable of inflicting any further suffering upon the innocent."

Would be nice if the current playing track highlight background color was different than the selected tracks' backgound highlight as it is hard to know whether it is selected or just highlighted (because it's current).  I tested this by hitting to find out the current track was not selected (but the others were).  Or, maybe this is a bug and the currently playing track should not have any highlighted background in Mega-Me's new skinning logic.

These bugs are all still there (do I need to report them again for every beta?):

- Play/Pause key on Natural Keyboard Pro now no longer opens an Explorer window but instead the keyboard driver's dialog to change the function assigned to the key appears (if MJ is a background app).

- In "mini-me" mode with winamp skins the playlist font is much to small (unreadable) on my machine (1600x1200 with large fonts setting). Or is there a way to change the font size?

- The update of the sliders (position and volume) in the new player control window only happens if I move the mouse over it.

- when bringing other windows to front that overlap the MJ window, their contents sometimes is not redrawn correctly.

- Checking a checkbox (e.g. in the options dialog) reveals part of the original windows checkbox behind it - maybe because I have a large font setup (on XP).

Mega-Me Skin Bug:
1. When you Ctrl|PLS|Left-Click to deselect a track in the playlist (for example), the background selection color remains the same.  If you Ctrl|PLS|Left-Click on another track in the list to add/select it the deselected track from before is redrawn with the correct deselected background.  The bug seems to be related to where the current focus ends up...meaning, where ever the focus is...it is drawn with the selected background color (no matter whether the track is truly selected or not).

This is skin dependent. Winamp skins are just that way (except that if you're actually using Winamp you can scale the whole skin to make it larger, not just the font). If the skin specifies a small font, then that's what you get. It's not an MJ bug.

I just tried this with XP, on Normal, Large, and Extra Large fonts and this doesn't happen for me.

so I click on the |PLS| sign next to it, MJ hangs

I've had this problem since the first time I used (and promptly bought because it was love at first sight) MJ 8.x.  System info reports the version as being N/A, and therefore I cannot download the updates automatically, and that's all that it affects.  It's not a big deal, but it would be nice to have it report something.  Next Page

Is it something about the registry, maybe?

Thanks,

From the menu when you select

File - Open Media File - MJ closes

Every Time  - all the time.

After playing with main.xml - MJ looks really good.
Deffinatley a real improvment- If i hadent already bought it - i would now.

Vis Studio toolbars are non adjustable in full screen mode.

Quick select bar for visualizations and track info templates doesn't update from right click and new selection made. Same with button selection to change between track info and vis'.

"TYPO : Select HELP button > Plus Features..."

MachineHead, was that reply for me?  If so, that was the first place I actually looked.  It just says, "Media Jukebox Plus" in the title bar, and have looked through all the various screens, and can't find the info.

System info looks like this:

Bugs

Remote Control : Next\Previous Playlists skip Smartlists.

Analyzing Devices : This comes up way too often. I liked it much better when it only showed up when I actually opened the Devices branch (although even then I have to wonder what the point of it is - isn't it obvious that when I open the devices branch that MJ is going to analyze them?).

Requests

Can the "Enlarge Menus" option be a seperate setting for Full Screen, MEGA-ME, Windowed, and mini-me? Or at least Full Screen from the other three?

Can the "Auto-Hide Bars" option be a seperate setting for Full Screen, MEGA-ME, and Windowed? This time I want it seperate for all three - the behavior I want in MEGA-ME (Auto-Hide OFF) is not the same as what I want for Full Screen and Windowed mode (Auto-Hide ON). Or I guess if MEGA-ME was just separate from the other two that would work for me too, but I imagine others would feel differently so maybe a separate option for every mode?

On the CD Burning box, can the Number of Copies text box get one of those up/down incrementer/decrementer things?

It would be really cool if every time MJ displayed a hyperlink that it would be clickable. I'm not looking for an automatic thing, I've just seen this behavior in the Plugin Manager and on the Import Media status box, and I thought it would be cool to have a live link for www.replaygain.org since you've listed that link in the Replay Gain Analyzer. Also a live link to the DSP plugin page in DSP Studio and a live link to the Vis plugin page in Vis Studio would be nice as well.

Comments

Two things I just found out about MJ8 today.

1. If you click on the Drop Target (not the arrow-menu - just on the bar) MJ will switch to display that target.
2. If you hold Shift down you can drag toolbar buttons around into new locations.

I'd like to make the following suggestions again for the mini-me metamorphosis engine:

1. Mini-me skins should be able to display the left media tree pane, instead of just the playlist pane.

2. Instead of having to use standard fonts, include support for skinned fonts. This is where, with .bmps, you can map out a alphabet, and numbers that the player would use instead of a regular font. Quintessential, Coolplayer, and Winamp 3 already support this with their skinning engines and it's one of the coolest features I've ever seen.

3. When the mute function, I'd like a way to keep the mute button displaying the down .bmp while the player is muted.

4. With playlists in mini-me mode, there should be the ability to customize what info in displayed. The default seems to be Track # - Artist - Song Name - Song Length. This may be possible already, but I haven't been able to find out how. Personally I'd just like to display Track # - Song Name - Song Length. Also, I think in playlists, there should be the ability to display the Seq column.

5. With the skins I make, I like to have the play and pause buttons in exactly the same place (sort of layered on top of each other.) So when the the player is playing, the pause button is displayed, and when the player is stopped or paused, the play button is displayed. I know this is probably possible right now in MJ8 with a javascript code, but it would be nice if this effect/layout was easily built into MJ. I know the Windows Media Player provides a easy way to to this.

6. Make a easy button command for fast-forwarding and rewinding within a CD track or mp3.

7. When displaying the elapsed or remaining time, allow skin authors to specify how many digits are displayed at any one time. Right now from what I can see, MJ displays only as many digits as is needed (with most songs usually m:ss), but for instance in one of my skins I'd like to specify that the elapsed time be displayed like hh:mm:ss always even is the unused digits only display 0's when not being used.

8. There should be a option to disable visualizations.

Also, in the MJ8 Skinning SDK, could you please be more specific (preferably with examples) on how to implement displaying windows over other (parent) windows.

Doof:
This is skin dependent. Winamp skins are just that way (except that if you're actually using Winamp you can scale the whole skin to make it larger, not just the font). If the skin specifies a small font, then that's what you get. It's not an MJ bug.

a) It is possible to set the playlist font size in WinAmp.
b) In MJ versions 7.x the playlist font in mini-me mode with WinAmp skins was readable on my system.

I just tried this with XP, on Normal, Large, and Extra Large fonts and this doesn't happen for me.

As you can see from the image, it happens for me:

"Backup Library" causes MJ to exit with no errors.

Recent changes to the DB are not saved.

Disastrous if you just renamed/moved files en masse.

Also renders the top-of page warning to "Please backup your library and your license" impossible to observe.

WinME and Win98SE.

MEGA-ME Skin Bug
1. When you grab the titlebar and drag the MJ frame around on the screen, the Min and Max buttons disappear while dragging.  They reappear after you 'let go' of the titlebar.

Suggestion:
1. How about a toolbar button in MJ for Interact?

a) You're not using Winamp, so all the features of Winamp aren't available.
b) Not sure what could have happened. The font size looks the same for me in 8 as it did in 7.

I can see that your having the skinning glitch in regards to checkboxes. I wasn't doubting you (I'd previously seen your screenshot), I was just pointing out that it may be a video driver problem more than an XP or large fonts problem. If you post your video driver specs, it may help the guys get it sorted out. It may also explain the small Winamp font problem you're describing. Have you changed video cards or video drivers recently?

Subject raised re earlier builds, too.

Move Files gives great flexibility, but the window reverts to the root folder when each move is completed. My folders are down 4 levels, and I don't want to move them up towards the root, so lots of xtra clicks. Any way that MJ can be programmed to revert to a desired level after each  move is completed?

HTH,
I don't think so.

Closing this thread now.  Should have been closed when 8.0.248 was released.
