Bug? Dropdown values when editing tag data
« on: January 29, 2013, 05:34:18 pm »

Hi. Version: 18.0.106.0 Registered

There might be a discrepancy in how the Artist and Genre dropdown lists are being handled, compared to the other fields.
Select multiple mp3 files inside Media Center then click on Tag in the Action Window, then click in the Album field and open up the dropdown list. The existing values of the selected files are at the top of the list.
This doesn't appear to be happening for the Artist and Genre fields if the existing values only include 1 value + blank. If there are 2 values + blank, it works and they are shown at the top of the dropdown list.
I'm not sure if any other fields are affected.Let me know if you need a screenshot.

If there's only one value, it should just select that value in the big list instead of putting a special section at the top of the list for selected values.

So unless I'm misunderstanding (totally possible), I think what you're seeing is normal.

Please reread my post. I will take a screenshot too. Of the selected files, there is a non-blank value and a blank value.

Therefore 2 existing options. It only happens on some of the fields (I have noted Artist and Genre).

Of the selected files, there is a non-blank value and a blank value.

How blank is handled will vary depending on if the field is a list-type field or a single value field.

For a list field (like artist) it probably won't be considered a value for the selected files.

Could you help me understand how that's a problem?  Does it slow down some edit you do commonly?

Hi

Have a look at these:

Album blank/Artist blank:

Album 1 value/Artist 1 value:

Album 1 value + blank/Artist 1 value + blank:

Album 2 values + blank/Artist 2 values + blank:

When I go to select a bunch of files to make all the artists the same, it doesn't give me the values at the top when some have the artist and some don't. The same happens for Genre.

So, is this something that should be noted, because it doesn't seem right to me?

Thanks

Thanks for the screenshots.  I believe I understand.

The semantics of list fields like Artist are such that an empty value is not considered a value when accumulating the values for the selection set.

We could change these semantics, but I'm worried it will lead to the reverse problem.  Empty could appear in places where it would be unexpected.

I'm not sure what's best.
