Backup XP to 7
« on: February 15, 2013, 02:49:40 am »

Hi all,

I'm sure this must have been asked before and I've done a search but can't find the answer.

My XP machine is on its last legs and a new Windows 7 PC is on its way. It's the 64 bit Home Premium edition. Can I use the backup file in XP to re-install on Windows 7 or do I have to start from scratch ?

Thanks,

Loafer  :)

Are you talking about the backup file of Media Jukebox?

If you do, you can use your backup file from Media Jukebox to recreate your library. The only thing you have to ensure is that the audio files you use with MJ do have the same file path as they do in your old WinXP installation. If not, it's still possible to restore your library without losing anything, but it's more work to do.

Backup and restore your library with MJ will keep your library but lose your program settings. If you want to keep your settings of MJ (eg. most of the settings set in Tools -> Options) you should export the Media Jukebox registry key (using regedit.exe) and reimport it with Win7. Give a signal if you need more advise for this!
