Remotely Manage Library
« on: March 23, 2013, 02:46:12 pm »

I would like to be able to manage my library from remote.  By manage, I mean just that, manage, not stream, play, or even control playback.  By remote, I mean on another machine/device.  What is the best way to do this?

The driving motivation behing this is the fact that my system is being used constantly so I have little opportunity to tweak the library.  It needs some TLC...

I have another PC I could use that is on the same network.  I have an iPad which would be great if I could use.  I would buy an android tab if there was motivation to do so.

Open to suggestions.  Currently my setup is a TV, an amp, and a PC acting as a the client and server.  No server machine.  Maybe I can serve and therefore manage the library from this extra PC?  It's always on anyway.

I have an HT-PC connected to my TV with MC18.   This Home Theater PC provides video and music from a 3TB drive.

I have a laptop that I use to browse the web and I am typing on it right now.  It is on the same LAN.  I installed MC18 on it, and can manage all the videos and music that are on the HT-PC.

The HT-PC's MC18 needs to have its Media Network Server turned on in Options->Media Network.

The laptop's MC18 needs to point to the HT-PC's library using Add Library.

Perfect.  I'll try that.  Thank you for the suggestion.
