Sync issues with Samsung Galaxy Nexus
« on: December 23, 2012, 04:38:57 pm »

I'm pretty new to Android. I am able to sync music files to the device, however I very often get errors, hangs and sometimes 'runtime error' crashes. I have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus (unlocked, the 'Google' firmware release on the latest version of Jellybean),
  • the sync list displays every music and video file on the device (including system audio, audio from apps etc). I have set the default music path in handheld options, but this seems to only change where music files are copied to. I think this could be dangerous if a user selected 'delete files on device which aren't in sync playlists'
  • if I choose to 'always convert' - if the music files are already on the device, when I start the sync MC displays 'uploading' then 'error'. The files stay on the device and play correctly, but the MC sync list shows them up as an error.
  • I am unable to sync video files - I've tried most options, including 'no conversion'. I actually just want to copy the video files without conversion, but I get a pop-up before the sync saying the videos are not supported (the device is capable of playing them though if I copy them over manually). Most of the videos are .mp4 or .flv.
  • quite a few of the music files converted from flac end up missing coverart. Most of the time coverart seems to work really well, so I'm not sure exactly when it doesn't work and when it does... will keep you updated if I notice a trend. All of my audio files have coverart stored in the file.
  • three or four times now, if I have a long sync list MC becomes unresponsive. Once I left it for about an hour (which should have been long enough for the sync to finish) but it remaned unresponsive. I had to end the process, and when I reloaded MC, I had an error on the start page advising me MC failed to load the chrome engine and to reinstall MC. I closed it and on startup selected load default library and everything was okay.
  • twice I have gotten a pop-up error message advising of a runtime error. If it happens again I'll post the error message.

Thanks guys. Apologies for the lack of any logs here - I'm going from memory and haven't been at my usual computer.

Merry Christmas everyone :)

John,

Do you happen to know if these "Samsung sync issues" have been looked into yet?  I started a similar thread with regard to the Galaxy S3, and I'm ready to send any log files that might be helpful, but nobody has requested them yet.

Thanks,

Larry

I've purchased a new LG Nexus 4. It's awesome.

More good news - I've not had any crashing issues during sync.

Unfortunately many of the other issues still persist (displays every video and audio file on device, not just in designated folders / am still unable to sync video files)

My galaxy nexus still will not sync.  Has this ever been looked into?

I don't think so. I could never reliably reproduce the problem, but more syncs failed than were successful...

Will this ever be addressed?  I just tried to sync again.  Takes a very long time to recognize the device.
