Some Flac show duration 0
« on: April 15, 2013, 04:13:01 pm »

Hi I´m having trouble with some flac files showing up with duration 0. They are playable in VLC and WMP and in MC18 they have a path and a size. What can be the problem? Forgot to write that MC18 just skips over the files with 0 duration they´re not playable at all in MC18.

See if Library Tools > Update Library (from tags) helps.  Try it on one first.

I wonder if the cue file is causing issues.

Probably because those flac files were not playable, the duration was not set (during the audio analysis phase).

Hopefully some with a definitive answer will help out soon.

The integrity of a FLAC file can be easily tested by running

FLAC –t FileToTest.FLAC

Flac will exit with an exit code of 1 (and print a message, even in silent mode) if there were any errors during decoding, including when the MD5 checksum does not match the decoded output. Otherwise the exit code will be 0.

Thanx for your suggestions. I´m at work now so I can´t test your suggestions now. I´ll get to it when I get home.

If there´s a Cue issue is there some way to automagically fix cue issues?

If there was a integrity issue with the flac file would it be playable in WMP - VLC?

When I tested playing the file in VLC - WMP I didn´t open the file from within the player I just had a Explorer and used Send to -> VLC - WMP.

Can you share one of the smallest problematic file for me to test here?  Dropbox would be great, and you PM the link.

I can share the file when I get home. I´m at work for several hours. The file will be approx 30 MB.
Thanx for your support.

The flac file appears to be somewhat incomplete as it does not have the usual MD5 signature:

   $ flac -st 03\ Runaway.flac
03 Runaway.flac: WARNING, cannot check MD5 signature since it was unset in the STREAMINFO

When I play it in MC, a single guitar note is heard and then it aborts.  Audio analysis fails.

So it might be fair to call the file corrupt (since its data cannot be verified).

I'll PM Matt the link, just in case he's interested in handing this case.

Under Tools > Options > Audio > Advanced > Configure input plug-in > FLAC Plugin, there is an option to "decode through errors".
Are you able to play the files with that enabled? It does sound like the files are corrupt or badly encoded though.

The option was enabled.  Good point though.

And this leads me to a lingering and intriguing question...

That FLAC option is an esoteric, hidden, uber-expert option.  So someone like yourself who registered only in Feb, I'm curious how you knew about it (and many of the other MC features you've picked up and apparently quickly).  How long have you been using MC?  Have you been around for a while?

I registered after trying the program for a couple of days. Because MC is such a huge application though, I've spent a decent amount of time trying to get a handle on everything that is in it.

I've now taken the stance that, just because it doesn't seem like there is an option/solution for something, I'll have a hunt around first and search the forums/wiki before asking a question, because MC probably already does it. (or can be configured to)

Decode through errors was enabled

Strange it played ok in VLC and WMP.

That flac file is fine. It has a playback range in it but it's not the file specified by the cue sheet. I've got no idea how that track (not image) got a playback range in it. If you delete the playback range it works fine.
