MC hangs for 30s on every launch
« on: September 04, 2013, 09:17:06 pm »

Hello,

For the past few weeks, I've noticed that MC has been hanging on every launch. The problem started on MC18, but it still exists on MC19.

All of my media is stored on my NAS. I mention this because it seems that the app is busy performing some kind of network operation on the UI thread. It happens on every launch, without fail: the app will be usable for about 5 seconds, and then will stop responding for up to 30 seconds.

I've attached the logs generated from MC. If you need anything else, please don't hesitate to ask!

Thanks!

It appears you've added a virtual handheld that points to a path that's no longer valid:
0005984: 3508: Handheld: CHHManager::InitializeProxyDevice: Start
0006328: 664: General: CLoaderThread::PerformAction: Finish (547 ms)
0033734: 3508: General: CFileSystemManager::AnalyzeDrive: Error adding connection 'Z:' / '\\Decima\Music': 53

Asking Windows if a UNC path is available is really slow.  We cache the answer, but it doesn't change the slowness for the first call.

You're correct - I did have a virtual handheld set up to point to a network share. But when I upgraded to MC19, that handheld no longer appears in the list on the Options dialog. How can I remove it for good?

One way is Options > Handheld > Redetect all devices...

I tried Redetect all devices..., but it didn't work - the mapped drive still didn't show up as a handheld. What should I try next?

Mapped drives don't show up as handhelds by default.

The problem is when you add a map drive as a handheld manually, then something breaks the mapping.

Resetting should remove any stale / broken handhelds that were added manually.

Yep, that's exactly what I had done previously - I mapped the network drive in Windows, and configured MC to use it as a handheld in order to keep my laptop's media in sync.

I just tried restarting MC and the delay is gone! Many thanks Matt!
