Settings that "zone copy" doesn't copy
« on: October 08, 2013, 07:21:45 pm »

I've been using the zone copy functionality a good deal lately, and I've noticed that some settings that seem to be zone configurable don't copy when a zone is copied.  For example, internal volume reference level is configurable on a zone-by-zone basis, but does not copy when a zone is copied (it resets to 100).  That one is easy enough to reset every time, but is probably not working as intended.

I haven't detected any others, but there are quite a few settings that I never changed from the default, so I'm curious if any other settings are effected. Obviously some settings are universal and not configurable by zone, but I'm curious if anyone else has discovered any settings that don't copy, but should copy.

The one that affects me the most is "Custom video mode settings"- these aren't copied by "zone copy".

Interesting, I figured it wasn't just the volume thing.  Hopefully these can be included in future zone copy implementation.

Please bump this thread (and add to it) until this is solved.

The goal is for all zone settings to end up in:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JRiver\Media Center 19\Zones\[Zone ID]

It's possible you'll need to manually set a setting (again) to get it to copy nicely.  This is because some options have moved to this new location and it takes doing a set to get them moved.  This only applies to old installs, not new installs.

For example, internal volume reference level is configurable on a zone-by-zone basis, but does not copy when a zone is copied (it resets to 100).

I believe this is an example of one you will need to manually set again to get it to copy nicely. After that, or on a fresh install, it should work.

If you are seeing something different, please let us know.

The one that affects me the most is "Custom video mode settings"- these aren't copied by "zone copy".

Next build:
Fixed: Custom video mode settings were not being stored in the new zone options location, causing them to not clone properly to a new zone (requires manually (re)configuring settings one time before cloning).

I reset it manually, but internal volume reference level still doesn't copy when the zone is copied.

Sorry, you're right.  It's one of the few options stored at the root of the zone settings, and I bet this is the issue.

I'm investigating...

The settings were copied fine, but the new zone had already loaded the setting to memory and wasn't reloading after the clone.

Next build:
Fixed: Some volume settings would not reliably clone to a new zone.
