Do I need to manually add channels for TV? Only some showing.
« on: November 13, 2013, 07:14:49 pm »

I have the HDHomeRun network tv tuner. In the tuner setup, many channels show up. When I scan channels in the latest release of JRiver only HD channels in the 80's range show up (I also noticed it says scanning for digital channels XX of 68). I noticed that with a few other media center programs they show up and some, like windows media center, non show up and I have to manually add them. I really like the JRiver program the best so far, but do I need to manually add the channels somehow?

Are you using the tuner for over-the-air ATSC channels?  Or clear QAM channels? MC scans over-the-air channels directly using signals available.  If a station is week MC may not find it.

I am using cable. I think I figured something out, on the HD Homerun setup you can select which Media Center program you are using. Choosing JRiver only lets you pick so many stations before it gives an error "channel limit due to program". This doesn't happen with other media center programs, just this one. In order to chose what channels I want to use I have to enable them in the HD Homerun setup. For some reason only jriver allows so many channels to be set up, i dont know why. So basically it mostly works, just with jriver I am only allowed to have so many channels available that fit in the 80-X range for some reason.

In HDHomerun Setup, choose "Other: ATSC/QAM" instead of "J River Media Center".

I have heard that about other programs but not JRiver. I gave it a try and it couldn't find any channels at all. I changed the setup back to jriver and was able to select about 63 channels out of about 150 that shows up in the hdhomerun setup. That might be enough for what I plan on doing with jriver.
