Searching in CD & DVD
« on: March 04, 2002, 11:36:04 pm »

Is it possible (or maybe in the future if not now) to do a search on my Audio CD's/DVD's ?
Now they are listed under "CD & DVD" but I can not do a search (with "CTRL F").

This will be in the next build.  There won't be interface space, but there'll be a new search token that overrides what database locations to search.

Examples:

rock ~d=c    (searches CD only)
rock ~d=mt   (searches main and temporary)
rock ~d=mct  (searches main, CD, and temporary)
etc...

If you don't specify anything, ~d=m is the default.

Thanks for hanging in there...

-Matt

(p.s. the equal after ~d (or any search modifier) is optional... it's just more readable that way)

Hi Matt,

Thank you a thousand times.

Does this ~d also includes removable drives (handhelds) for files that are not imported and not in the playing now ?

bennyd, MJ doesn't auto-database removable drives like it does for CD's and DVD's, so there's no way to search it.

However, you can always import your removable drive, and then playback and everything will work seamlessly...

Take care.

Ok, thanks,

One last question about this topic:

Is there a way to do a search in "Playing Now" (no matter that they are imported or not).
e.g. sometimes I have a playing now of more than 1.000 songs and I'm looking for a certain song but not certain about how it is written (so the sort function doesn't help me alot).
If they are not imported I presume I could use ~d=t but what about already imported files.

Or maybe add a keyword in search function to only include "Playing Now" or ~d=p (p for playing now)?

What do you think Matt, would this be possible ?

Next build will have a "Quick Search" available in all views that have a file list. (except handhelds)

Once you type in a search, F3 will cycle through all the hits in the list for your search.

I think it's pretty slick...

Hehe Next Page

I thought it was pretty cool that everybody kept bumping this for a week without any grumping.  Sometimes grumping and bumping seem to go together Next Page

Anyway, thanks everyone for all of your help (and patience).

Suggestion for a new MJ feature:

It would be wonderful if MJ could include "off-line" MP3 files (from CDs, DVDs or other removable media) in searches.  Pop a CD in, catalog all the songs in your database, then pop another CD in, catalog its songs... then search across ALL CDs and your hard drive (not just the CD currently inserted). This would be way cool!

I like the "CTRL Q", "F3" quick search function, very cool.

Thanks Matt, it's working perfect.
