How to mass-set tags
« on: March 04, 2002, 08:29:55 pm »

Hello,

Is there a way to mass-set tag info? Specifically, I am looking to set my genre and release year tags based on CDDB or Allmusic. Doesnt look like there are any utilities out there that do the job.

Thanks

I'll probably get deleted or banned for saying this, but being as how this is one of the two major features I wish MJ had, I'm going to commit the blasphemy and say it anyway.

MusicMatch Jukebox does it. They call it Super Tagging. They have a pretty good interface for it, and if your tags are mostly correct anyway, you shouldn't have any trouble filling in genre and year automatically. I've used it to set thousands in a batch. It, and any other lookup, can get kind of funky results if it's based on vague parameters, but if it's just those two you shouldn't have any trouble.

Thank you!  I would much rather do this in MJ, but as yet, MJ can't do everything.  I still regularly use MixMeister (for mixing CDs) and MusicMatch (for playing music while MJ is importing or ripping) in addition to MJ.

Any info on how to get MP3 TAG GRABBER? Couldnt find it anywhere. I found Tag Grabber 1.24, but I dont think that's the one.

In the interim, I'll try out the supertagging feature on MM

Thanks

Search this board for tag grabber and there is a link. I tried it and it works pretty well.

if you fill out the info i will get it your info Via E-mail and i will send you a key code, but i was just playing with this and it is free so you can just enter "CDDB", and it will work also

It's interesting that MJ CAN do it, but it only does 1 track at a time. Maybe if we make the request to them they'll update the program to do batches. Filtering would be nice too, so it doesn't just set every field, but only the fields you want updated.

Maybe when i get some time i may make a version 2 of MP3 Tag Grabber.

Some of the new things I can include is Cover Art, And That Sounds Like A Good Option To Allow The User To Update Only The Field they want.

I am just to busy to even start that project right now, since I am working 7 days a week (1\2 days on the weekend).

Since J River Is Including Some Plugins Maybe If I Read The Docs I May also be able to use them to make the program work with Media Jukebox. I am Not sure about that one. I think they need to finish the plugins first.

It seems that the MP3 Tag Grabber exe starts then asks me to continue and install MP3 Surgeon?!? I launch the only new thing installed-- MP3 Surgeon, and there do not seem to be the tools spoken about. What am I missing?

>>I launch the only new thing installed-- MP3 Surgeon,
you have something wrong with your system, like a program you downloaded that is not installed correctly.

that program has nothing to do With MP3 Tag Grabber.

1. You may want to uninstall that program.
2. reboot
3. delete all files and dirs in c:\windows\temp
4. try reinstaling mp3 tag grabber

if that does not work you may want to do a full reinstall of windows, and this may also fix your other problems your having.
