Music01 - Can Not Connect
« on: March 02, 2002, 08:51:41 am »

Is It Me Or Do I Need To Turn My House 90%?

When trying to connect with Music01 To the J River Server, it connects, i am displayed on the Music01 - User Html And Then Later I Get A Message I Am No Longer In The Data Base.

Why?

Does It Have To Do With The Wall Colors In My Dining Room?
Where My Furniture Is Placed?

An executive for McDonalds approaches the Pope and offers $50m if the Pope will advertise McDonalds. The Pope agrees in principle but tells the exec that he has to clear it with the Cardinals first. So, he goes to the next Cardinals meeting and tells them he's got some good news and bad news. 'The good news' he says is 'we get $50m for changing the words of the Lords Prayer to "give us this day our daily meat". 'Sounds good' say the Cardinals - what's the bad news?'. 'We got to dump the bread contract!!'

Have a nice Saturday - Jim

I wonder in your huge collection, if you've got anything by 'Creation' a London based 'cult' band of the late '60s early '70s. I ask as the lead guitarist/singer is my brother-in-law and he'd be interested to know. They kinda competed with the Who at one time for outlandish music etc but broke up, I think, in the 70s. He still plays and writes and is one of the best guitarist I've heard. Creation were invited to reform and perform in NYC in November last year and he was really surprised at the fans who made it there.

Also, just out of interest - where do you get all the tracks from that you've recorded. I've kinda half-followed the growth of it over a period and it seems every time you report the size of it, it's jumped a thousand or two. I just can't imagine 80k songs - makes you wonder how many in total have been recorded over the years/

Hey, thanks for the info. I'll tell him to check his cheques out. He's still doing lots of 50s and 60s rock and roll with a fair bit of country thrown in. He and his 'followers' do a very good Blues Brothers set which goes down a storm.

Thanks again - Jim

I was having trouble connecting for a day, possibly two. Now I can connect with no problem, and there's even been a little streaming activity, but I keep getting booted off. There's no error message or anything--I just leave the room, or look away for a moment, and the next thing you know, the little task bar icon is no more. Do we have to keep visual contact with the little task bar icon to keep it running? That could pose a problem for those that still have to go to work. Or is it that my music isn't playing nicely with someone else's music? Did my music get suspended? Expelled?

Hi KingSparta,

There was a problem with a couple of the betas. Are you running the absolute latest and greatest? Is it still happening? There may be something else going on.

yes, it's still happening. Not the unable to connect problrm of the last build--that's fixed, but rather, this is getting repeatedly and unexpectedly disconnected. Also, the file count is off by 500 give or take

Something Interesting.

I put the Music01 server in Private Mode To See If I Could Get It To Work.

It Seems To Be Working But I Am Not Listed In the User.Html

When Not In Private Mode It Seems J River Server Kicks Me Off And De-Lists Me

private mode now does not connect to www.music01.com - it is the media server of old.

KingSparta(2 :^) - the web server cannot connect to your server. Has your network changed recently? It fails to connect, and so it never gets your track list, and when your server checks after the first 15 minutes to see if everything is ok, it isn't. Check out your network config.

MHorton - How long does it stay up? I haven't noticed this - my machine at work has been up for a couple of days. I'm constantly rebooting the machine at home, so that doesn't tell me anything. When did this start happening? After one of the betas?

It's gonna be monday before this is fixed probably. I'm out for the day (it's sunday, I can't work seven days a week :^).

Thanks y'all

Well No

The Only Thing Is I Did Re-Install Windows XP

Maybe Windows XP, FireWall Is On, I Will Check

Also Clicking On the Music01 Server Window (Where Files Are Listed) A Few Times Created A Crash

It seems that was the problem Windows XP Firewall Was On, And Blocked Me

Maybe Music01 Server Could Check If Windows XP OS, Then Check If Firewall Os On, Tell User To Turn It Off

Also I Clicked On "Time" header in the Music01 Server, Music01 Crashed. I Have Not tested The Others Also at that time there were no files in the listing

>>>>>>>MHorton - How long does it stay up?

it varies, but I'm coming to terms with it. The problem started right after Raymond fixed the other typo that wouldn't allow me to log in, so what--its been happening maybe 4 days (http://music01.com/cgi-bin/interact/neoBoard.pl?Action=ShowPost&Board=interact&Post=550&BoardIdle=60&SortingBy=0&BoardOrder=Descend&Page=0&UserSession=). Sometimes its up for an hour to two, sometimes longer. But I've noticed that on occassion, someone will start to stream a song, then suddenly the info in the main screen area (where time, file name, file size, etc is displayed in the Music01 program) will kind of flicker on and off, and then poof! . . . the server she isa no more. I've witnessed that at least 3 times, but afterward there is no record of the straeming incident in the statistics info page. So, I think that this is probably what is happening when I leave the computer and return to find that the Music01 server is no longer running. Only a guess. KingSparta displayed the status messages, but I can't do that because I don't just get booted off the server--the Music01 program itself closes (no more friendly, comforting little icon pal in the taskbar tray).

>>>>>>>>Also I Clicked On "Time" header in the Music01 Server, Music01 Crashed.
yup
file name too. Click on file size--the program gets angry and says "I'm outta here." I'm guessing that we can safely assume that the other headers will follow the same pattern. But, here's the thing--I wonder if, on those occassions in the above paragraph, if I didn't adjust these headers to see who was streaming what, thereby crashing the program. Doesn't explain the other types of crashes though, when its up for 2-8 hours and then goes kaput when I'm not around. Unless . . . .

I am very tempted to do this, just so you'd find out how much you paid for this feature Next Page.

Let's see, the message box would say something like "Don't be like KingSparta, turn your firewall off".

Or I could have it send you a brief (not more than a megabyte or two) email each time this feature was actually used, so that you could feel good about your contribution.

Hi MHorton, and KingSparta too:

I'll get Raymond to take a look. It sounds like it's a problem with the new music01 code (to do the old Media Server stuff).

MHorton,
Music01 Server writes the status log into a file called Music01Server.log, located where MJ is installed. If Music01 Server mysteriously closes down again, please check the log in the file.

As for clicking the column header thing, I cannot duplicate it, even under Windows XP. What made it more mysterious was that there were no item in the list when header was clicked, as KingSparta said, so invalid data in the list should not be the reason that causes the crash. I will do some more tests on it.
