I'm using MC18 on a laptop and bitstreaming to a USB DAC. I've disabled volume within MC, but I can still control volume with Windows. Is there a way to disable the Windows volume control?

If you can still control the volume with Windows, then you aren't bitstreaming.

If you have an ASIO driver for your DAC, then I would use that. ASIO bypasses the Windows master volume with most devices.

If your DAC doesn't have an ASIO driver, then try WASAPI. If you set JRiver to internal volume control and then use WASAPI and check "maximize device volume" then the Windows volume will always be maxed out. I think this option is available in MC18, but it might only be in MC19. I haven't used  MC18 in a while.

Thanks for your reply. I have an Audio Research CD9 which does have an ASIO driver. So I'm a bit puzzled.

My Mytek DAC had same problem where windows volume wouldn't disable with their ASIO USB driver. I mentioned this to Mytek, the latest USB driver now has option to 'bypass windows volume'. Is odd as thought ASIO should bypass windows volume by default anyway.
