Netflix not working in Theater View
« on: February 07, 2014, 04:14:17 pm »

I have just subscribed to Netflix and can't get it to work it Theater View.

In standard view, a message quickly flashes on the screen about a problem with the browser engine, but then Netflix works fine

In Theater View, all I get is the message "There are no items to display".

Thanks for any help!

Did you set it up in MC's options for services?

It may only work in the U.S. and Canada.

Hi Jim
I'm not too sure what you mean. It does work - in the standard view anyhow. Do I have to set up something special for Theater View?

Tools/Options/Services
and then
Run Netflix from Theater View.

Thanks again Jim - but where is the option "Run Netflix from Theater View"?

In Tools/Options/Services, under Netflix I have 2 items:

- Manage Netflix account
- Show Netflix search option

If I expand Manage Netflix account, I get
- Display information about account
- Open account webpage
- Delete the connection to this account

Try the wiki topic called "Theater View".

Netflix is under Video there.

Still not following you I'm afraid Jim.

You mean this page: http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Theater_View ?

Probably not - the only reference to video on that page is the Background Images and Videos section

Use the Arrow keys or your mouse to move to the Video section, and from there, use the Down arrow to get the the next "roller" menu.  Move right to find Netflix.

I think we're maybe talking at cross-purposes.

I never had a problem finding Netflix in the menu, either in the regular view or Theater View.

The problem is, when I run Netflix in Theater View, all I get in the main window below the menu items "Instant Queue" or "Recommended" is the message "There are no items to display"

I see, sorry.  I have Search, Instant Queue, and Recommended.  The latter two have items, Search of course does not until I search.

That's interesting. I just turned on the option to display the Search function and the search does work, kind of. It's unbelievably slow to enter the letters (big lag on mouse or keyboard), and it doesn't search for anything but titles. I tried searching for Penelope Cruz in Woman on Top. "Penelope" gave me a few films called Penelope, "Penelope Cruz" and "Woman on Top" both gave me nothing at all. Fairly useless, but at least I got something in the main window...

Search shouldn't be slow, but the Netflix search isn't very good on the Netflix side.  You could use a browser to try it, and also to add something to your queue.

It's a big disappointment that Netflix is no longer supporting interfaces/programs such as JRiver MC. I think it won't be too much longer before the app is totally broken/useless in MC. As noted, the search feature doesn't work well, and for many of us, the "recommended" queue doesn't work at all. I have to load the movies/shows into the queue from the Netflix website.
Fortunately I have smart TVs with built in Netflix, so I can still use the service directly through my Viso or Samsung TVs. Netflix actually works quite well through the TV app. I just prefer to do everything in JRiver for as long as I can.

Let Netflix know what you want.  Who knows?  They might change their approach.
