New here: one mediafile appears twice
« on: February 11, 2014, 05:07:35 am »

First of all, I am new in the forum and I apologize if my english as a german is not 100% perfect.

I have downloaded the MC19 trial last week on my notebook. Auto-Import worked well and after some days of testing, I MUST state that this software is the best what I have tried last years to get my HomeTheater running in a good way.

I changed in settings the file allocations for music, pictures and videos from C:username/blablabla to my NAS/DLNA-Server while choosing the mapped drive letter "Y". Because all my media files are hosted on NAS servers. The NAS Library is visible in left pane. Now when I open in "Music" an Album eg. ACDC Black Ice, I see all MP3 songs and all WAV songs stored in "Y". That is correct. But I see additionally the same MP3 files and WAV files again under the http-address (198.168.2.106:82000/mediaitem......, sorry I do not have the full syntax as I don't have my notebook handy yet)

Net, "Song 1.mp3" is in the list stored/linked as "Y" AND http-address. Same with the "Song 1.wav".

How could I get rid of the http-address?

I want only to see the mapped NAS files under "Y"

Same happens with videos and pictures

Can somebody help as I am a bit fruststrated and baffled

That's your NAS' DLNA media server.  You don't need to use it in MC;  just select and use the Main library.  You can hide the DLNA entry by right-clicking it under Playing from Main Library and and hiding it.  Or disable your NAS' DLNA media server.

Thx so much MrC !

I'll try in some hours when at home and will let you know soon; especially using only the MAIN library and hiding the NAS lib. Seems to be a starter/newbie problem as MC is sooooo powerful.

Besides, the DLNA NAS has no server software like Twonky.

In my case, MC should only act as an control point and “say” to NAS: shift Music via Ethernet to AVR, pictures to TV and Video to AVR&TV; may be wit help of Fantec Mediaplayer Hardware.

MrC,  what do you mean with ”disable DLNA NAS”? In MC? Or should I do it in NAS itself? Last one is no option as this server works as media and backup server. And I need DLNA NAS functionality for home-network as I am using currently also other (media) software. May be this changes with JRiver as standalone solution. I will decide after trial period. But not yet.

Thx for great support

There are two ways you could set things up:

1) MC is the Control Point. MC is the Server. MC browses the music files on your NAS. MC pushes the command to your Player to play a music track. MC serves the track to the Player.

2) MC is the Control Point. NAS is running its DLNA Server. MC browses the music files on NAS DLNA Server. MC pushes the command to your Player to play a music track. NAS DLNA Server serves the track to the Player.

Option 2) is more complicated, and its only benefit is that once MC has issued the push command to the player, you can turn off MC.

So, like MrC, I also recommend you use Option 1) -- and since Option 1) does not need the NAS to be running its DLNA Server, so you can turn that off.

Thx Andrew, well explained.
But is Option 1 not a bottle-neck while using a low performance wireless Notebook? I thought if MC acts as Server, the huge media file needs to go wireless to Notebook, pass MC and gets shifted to my AVR. My simpleminded thinking is when using MC only as CP, only some bytes moving to NAS and then via Ethernet cable the huge media files gets to the AVR.

If Option 2 would be faster I would like to stay with it. Even its more complicated. The main advantage is not to turn off the MC after chosing the media files. I love MC because it has a clear structure/view to access media files; especially the tagged pictures !!!!!! To be honest I have not found the last years a good software which can manage my then thousand tagged pictures. But MC does it !

Besides, I am planning to buy a combined notebook/tablet “Asus Transformer Book T100TA” with 2GB DD3 Ram and 32GB eMMCX, Win8,1, Touchscreen, Dockingstation, Intel® Bay Trail-T Quad Core Z3740 1.33 GHzProzessor. Purpose is to check some emails, internet surfing: But mainly CP Hardware for Hometheater. Do you think this notebook could work with option 1 ? I know that this Questions needs to be shifted/posted to Hardware section, but may be you have any suggestion.
Sorry for asking so much, but MC has tooooooo much potential which I really enjoy.

Appreciate your feedback as newbie

I assume your NAS and your player are connected via Ethernet and MC is connected via wifi ??
If so then indeed Option 2) will be less dependent on wifi bandwidth restrictions.

Hi Andrew, your assumption is correct.

Thx to MrC; I have emptied main library and deleted the NAS lib. Now I have only every media file one time in System (main Lib)

thx for great and fast Support

From my side this thread can be closed  :) as I will decide soon if Option 1 or 2 will work after buying the new Asus transformer Notebook

Again, greetings from germany
