Portable Device Users / New Feature
« on: February 21, 2002, 07:06:27 am »

During the testing of MJ version 8 I have received some requests for the ability to reorganize the order in which tracks download to Portable Devices once they have been dropped on a device path. The advice we gave was to organize the files in a playlist before sending them to the Portable Device. In the next build of MJ coupled with the latest version of your Plug-in, the following solution is now implemented...

If you right-click on the root level of your device you will find an option to "Show Virtual Files Only". When this is selected, you will only view the files that are "In Queue" to be transferred. In this view you can rearrange the files in whatever order you want and this order will become the order in which they are transferred to the player.  This view can be deselected with the right click.

In addition, this same view can be invoked from a checkbox on the "Options" tab when in the root level view.

I hope this helps. As you use it, please let me know if anything appears strange with this feature.

Thanks,

Steve

FYI After a quick revision, the text will say "Show queued files only" instead of " Show Virtual...".

My portable device is a Rio 500 and I have been using a simple drag and drop to download from Media Jukebox to the Rio.  Is there a better way?

Also, if I do a 128 to 64 forced convert (thanks to Steve for providing me direction on that one) the conversion takes a pretty long time for enough files to fill up 64M of memory.  In fact, the 'go to sleep' timer in my Rio turns itself off before the download starts, ending the process.  As a comparison, Real Jukebox does the conversion and download song by song so the Rio is always being pulsed so it stays awake.

Any help available on this one?

RSansouci,

A simple drag and drop is the only way to move the files if you are running MJ v7 which I guess is what you have.  In v8 you can drag and drop and also use a right click "send-to" feature.

You raise a good point with the file conversions. I solved this for the Nomad players in v7  by prompting the user to turn the Portable back on after the conversions are done if the device has powered down.  I will implement a similar thing in the Plug-ins for the Rio players for version 8 so you won't lose the time you spent converting the files.

Thanks.

Geez, IQ, I was just going to clean your post up a little and my finger slipped.  Honest.  I just hit remove instead of modify.  I'm really sorry.  No fooling.
