MC 19.0.121
WD TV Live SMP

Hi,

For several months I have had an occasional issue with MC crashing.  Most times it appears linked to a content request from a WD TV Live SMP.  I captured the logs this time & hoping someone can advise anything I can address at my end

It occurred when I had selected Video on the WD device.  Normally it would return the video titles.  In this case the device hangs.  the MC PC is displaying an error message indicating MC must close

Is there anything you can tell us about that top level view? (I assume you are seeing the crash as soon as it does the top level video view).
Also, is it only the video view that can make it crash?
Finally, there are options in the way the WD displays folders/files. How have you got this set?

hi Bob,

I have only ever observed the issue for Video.  I rarely use the WD unit for anything else

Top level view for Video (in MC) is
  • Movies
  • TV Shows
  • Home Videos
  • Other
  • Disk
  • Recent

Under Movies, the show Categories in this order just has Name
Set rules for file display has Media Subtype is Movies & Sort by Name (a-z)

On the WD device I select Videos, Video, Movies & then the unit hangs.  I check the PC & the crash is evident.  Restarting MC resolves it.

thanks,

Steve

Make sure the option for the video view is set to "list mode" not "preview".
Preview can force multiple video's to be converted so rapidly that your PC can run out of ram (causing an MC crash).
You might want to turn off the autoplay option if it's on for the same reason.
It seems like when we get up to about 8 simultaneous conversions things grind to a halt.

Hi Bob,

I'm assuming the view of "list" vs "preview" is on the WD device.  If this is the case my normal view is "list" & this is when I observe the issue

Would you like me to capture more logs?  I am happy to try & get a wireshark trace if that would help

thanks for investigating,

Steve

hi Bob,

Not familiar with the dump file capabilities & couldn't find one in the J River folders.

Found this on the Microsoft site http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/bb787181(v=vs.85).aspx .  Is this what you're after?

The MEMORY.DMP in C:\Windows is dated 16/12/2010 so guessing this isn't it

thanks,

Steve

I see, it's already in your zip file (had to query Hendrik to find out). Thanks.
