Playing and ripping region 2 DVDs
« on: November 21, 2013, 07:14:46 pm »

Hi I am new here and to using this kind of software, I came from an all analog world. If this question does not belong here please tell me where.
I want to buy some Live recorded DVDs that I can only get on Region 2. Can they be converted to NTSC and played then recorded back to a DVD that I can use in my BR player? Win 7 computer, Oppo DVD BR 103 player.

I'm in Region 4 and got myself an old BBC TV series (produced in Region 2 format) a while back. I used MakeMKV to rip the video and didn't need to mess with the region settings on my optical drive. As long as you can play back MKV files, you should have a chance. One to research just in case things have changed.

I found my CD player in the laptop will play them and I can tape them with JRiver media center But still working on a way to store in onto a HD that is hooked to my OPPO BLURAY player. I can always run them to my TV with the laptop but it would be better to use the DVD player.

You can make your Oppo region free for DVDs:

http://watershade.net/wmcclain/BDP-103-faq.html#region-free-modifications

And I think you will find that if you rip the disc, removing region codes, then burn to another disc, the Oppo will play it whether it is PAL or NTSC to your TV. My old, ancient, Oppo player played PAL to NTSC just fine so I'm guessing the new models will as well.
