Few Quick Media Organization Questions
« on: June 02, 2014, 09:42:21 am »

Hey Guys -

I just recently found out and started using JRiver.  I love it!  It's just what I need to organize my huge collection of media!  I've been playing with it a total of a couple of hours now and looked many things up in forums and online support, but still have a couple of things I need assitance with, please.

Sub Media Types
First of all, I've read there's no way to add additional Sub Media Types to the left bar under Video (besides the default Movies, Shows, Files, Home Videos) - is that correct?  If no, how?  Also, I found out how to change the Sub Media Type for file(s) by hitting F4, but seemingly cannot add custom types by typing a name.  I've looked through Options, too.  Is this not possible?

Media Tagging / Library Fields
I've located the Manage Library Fields window in Options, but for the life of me cannot figure out how to edit these fields for individual or a group of files.  I'd think it would be a right click option, but all seem automated or tools.  I do see the Tags section on the left, but it only has 4-5 fields to be edited.  How may I edit these fields per file manually?

Show Grouping
I scrape my media with Media Center Master so the vast majority of my media imported in the correct fashion.  I do have a couple of shows which didn't scrape that imported as unassigned, yet are shows.  They failed to scrape via JRiver as well.  I changed their type to TV Show, but when going to that view, it listed each episode instead of them grouped by show.  The names of the episodes are correct, though.  How may I group these and make JRiver recognize that specific groups are a single show?

Think that's about it.  Thanks for a great product!  Ben

Media Sub Type only accepts the preset values.  We will consider additions if there's a consensus.

You can right click -> Rename any Field to edit it.  You can also click on it, then hit F2.  To edit multiple files, just select them (ie Ctrl+A for Select All, Ctrl + left click, of Shift + left click).  See:  http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Edit_File_Properties_%28tags%29  There is also Pane Tagging Mode:  http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Tagging_Mode

If the the Action Window in the lower left is only showing a couple tags, it may be set to Show Tags With Values.  Click on the setting icon on the left hand side when the Tag window is open to change it (ie Show All Tags).

Referencing Show Grouping, check to make sure the Series and Season tags match.

Here are some more links that might help with what you're looking for.  It is possible to make your own custom tags that you could use very similarly to Sub Media Types.

Here, you could use the "custom" tag.

Also, you could add these custom tags to the tree for easy access.
