My CD Writer Fix
« on: February 07, 2002, 05:01:05 pm »

Doof said in another post:

Here's my experiences thus far.
Writing CD's works fine as long as I have that wnaspi32.dll file in place. Occasionally, new builds of MJ decide it doesn't like that file, so I have to remove it from system32, have MJ detect my writer (using the generic driver), then recopy wnaspi32.dll into System32, and have MJ detect my writer using the actual driver. Then it works. Not sure what's up with that.

and provided the following link:
ftp://ftp.nero.com/wnaspi32.dll

Now I have been trying ever since Version 7 first came out (I could burn in  Version 6) to get my CD Burner to perform correctly with only marginal success. This last build (8.0.199) would see my burner but the burn prograsm would not come on (no "start") .... until I read Doof's post above. I thought "What have I got to lose? It doesn't work anyway." Actually I thought "What the ####, it ain't workin' anyhow." I'm Southern and I think in Southern, OK?
I tried it, it works. I can't say that enthusiastically enough. It works. I'm in shock. The solution was simple.
The "why" is more complicated. There was NO wnaspi.dll in System32. It was in System. I left that one ther, copied Nero's into System32 and "Detected" the CD/RW. The "generic" check went off, the "add two second gap ..." check went off and I burned a disk. I then played it in my old Symphonic CD player successfully. Why was the file not in System 32? I don't know.
What have you got to lose? TRY it. (Save your old wnaspi.dll just in case). If it doesn't work for your problem, remove it and put the old one back.

I just can't believe it's finally fixed.
THANK YOU, DOOF!!!

Kinda related....

Whatsit with the auto insert notification??

When I go to burn using Adaptec stuff it gives me a message. Says approximately,
"Oh my god, you idiot, you've got the auto insert notification turned OFF" (or on, I forget).
"What a moron you must be.  You can't possibly burn a CD like that.  Shall I fix it for you and reboot, fool??

Humbly, head bowed, answer "OK", reboot, burn CD, no problems.

Sometime later, decide to burn a data CD with MJ. Then it says something like,
"Hey Lamebrain, you've got the auto insert notification turned ON" (or off, whichever).
"Clearly you are very low in the brain chain.  What are you thinking? You can't possibly burn a CD like that.  Shall I fix it for you and reboot, dufus??

Meekly, shoulders hunched, answer "OK", reboot, burn CD, no problems.

Wassup with that? Are these two always gonna oppose one another? (with implicit bad attitude?)

What is the 'prograsm' you mentioned in your post? Is it in v199? Is it something we should all know about?

JollyJim,

>>What is the 'prograsm' you mentioned in your post? <<

I TOLD you I was REALLY happy about my CD burner working right again.
Actually, it was just a very fortunate misspelling. Freudian perhaps?
