Use Channel Grouping tool to group your channels of different source (cable, over-the-air, etc.). Then only one of the equivalent channels shows up in the Guide. MC will pick an available tuner to record the show.
It is not a Channel Grouping issue I'm afraid Yaobing. This situation occurs when a program is simply shown on more than one channel, and may move between channels.
For example, MotoGP here in Australia used to be shown on Channel One or Ten. Both belong to the same broadcaster, and due to scheduling issues they used to move the MotoGP between the two channels, or sometimes show it on both channels. The channels are not equivalent and generally show different programs, so they don't have the same EPG and can't be grouped.
In that situation I set a program to record, then go into Standard View and add the other channel(s) that may carry the program to the Recording Rule.
In fact, for nearly all my recordings, except once off programs such as movies, I set the program to record via the Guide and then edit the Recording Rule that was created to meet my needs.
I looked at using the "Allow setting some details when scheduling recording in Theater View" setting but I found that it didn't meet my needs as it always pops up the questions for every new recording. It was clumsy.
Sorry Afzal, that is just the way it is.
Also, it is true that if you have "exact match" as the default rule for selecting a program by name to record, and the name changes, the program will not record. So if I want to record NCIS and the EPG provider changes the name to N.C.I.S., then it will not be recorded. Two recording rules are required to fix that issue. If the EPG provider simply decides to includes the program Sub-Title at the end of the Title, for example "NCIS" becomes "NCIS: The long road", which has happened in my EPG source, then again the program is not recorded based on a exact match of the name. In that case entering NCIS as the name, and turning off the "Require an exact name match" flag will result in all NCIS programs being recorded. Having thought of that, now apply the same issue to all the various CSI programs, if all you want to record is CSI: NY for example!
Again, the solution is to edit the Recording Rule in Standard View.
Finally the JRiver approach to documentation is to provide the Wiki and Forum. Frustrating when a manual should have at least the basic answers, but the forum is very active, and you get direct access to the developers such as Yaobing, so it isn't too bad most of the time.
I see you have decided it is all too hard Afzal. That is a shame, as some of the TV functions in MC are good, such as the way Time Shifting works. I used WMC for a short time, and yes it is easier to use generally, but it had drawbacks in playing some formats, managing movies from other sources, and so on. Plus I wanted an all in one solution for media, music, TV, movies, etc. There have been and still are plenty of really good TV recording applications out there to learn from. Let's hope MC makes a lot more progress in the next year. (Or month, or week even Yaobing!)
