So I have loaded JRiver and Gizmo on devices namely a Desktop PC and Droid Razr Maxx.  No issues and stuff plays fine on home network on both devices.  When on home network, Gizmo works well and have no issues with port fowarding and the like.  My problem is when I go to listen to a song off network my phone downloads a .mpl file instead of streaming or playing the file.

Question 1.  When outside my home network and on my Droid, should I go through Gizmo, or webgizmo to play the files, and how then do I get the files to stream rather then download? Is it a library setting, or am I not able to do this.  I have tried Plex and it works OK, but I would like to use JRiver.

Question 2.  I have a Sonos system, and I was under the impression that it could only pass a 16/44.1 file.  So when I choose the Sonos as a "Play To" device, what is the resolution that is being played.  I know I am selecting higher rez files such as 24/96 and the like, and they play through the Sonos.  So is JRiver converting the sample to something the Sonos can handle, or am I actually listening to 24/96 and such files that are just being "pushed" from JRiver.

Question 3.  Is JRiver the best app for remote streaming, or is Plex or XBMC better.  I usually only listen to music, but I like the idea of streaming movies as well.  I could care less at this point about PQ/SQ when streaming to my phone.

Much help is appreciated.

Bump on this one.

I notice that pushing high-res audio files to Sonos works via JRiver, but not via the Sonos player itself.  Is a down-conversion happening? Does anyone know?

This is the place to ask about how MC works and you'll get good detail on how to control the audio quality through the software. By the sounds of it, you're across those aspects.

How Sonos is doing it's thing. Dunno   ?   I'd be starting from scratch and heading over to Sonos-world and searching there. Not being a Sonos user, that's the best I could offer. I'm guessing the reason why this thread is still loose is that there probably aren't that many MC users work with Sonos out there.

I'd be more helpful if I could. Maybe someone else out there can chip in.

Everything is converted to MP3. Go to Service & Plug-ins > Media Network and pick the DLNA Media Server. Look at the log and you see it creates a temporary mp3 file - in does for Linux.
