Importing tracks with correct filename format
« on: January 28, 2002, 03:12:13 am »

I am trying to import tracks into Media JukeBox Basic that were recorded using Rosoft CD Extractor (Version 2.0 Release 1.02)

The tracks import fine but MediaJukebox does not interprerate (Is that spelt right?) the track name correctly. Rosoft stores the track in the format "Artist\Album\track.mp3 and gives it the name "##-track name" where ## refers to the track number. Media JukeBox assumes the track number is part of the name and does not give the track a number where the number should be. I can get Rosoft to omit the track number but I would rather not and I don't want to have to re-name all the tracks I record.

Is there a way to import .mp3 files with the correct name format? Alternatively can somebody recomend another free CD ripper that will record well to .mp3 at a 128 bit rate while creating tracks in a format Media JukeBox understands?

Alternativly I could record to Widows Media Format. What views to people have on that format, bearing in mind I hope to purchase a Creative Nomad at some point in the future?

I am using Media JukeBox 7.2.265.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Over,

If the files have an ID3 tag, then they would have the proper fields filled out. But apparently they don't, as MJ is only basing the track title from the filename. Try this when you import.

First, let's say that your music is in C:\Music\ARTIST\ALBUM (where C:\Music is wherever your Artist folders reside)

On the Import Media Files dialog, point the Search box to C:\Music

Click the Advanced>> button.

At the bottom of this screen is a checkbox labeled "Get file information from filename\directory"

In the Directories drop down box, choose ARTIST\ALBUM
In the Filename dropdown box, type in TRACK#-TITLE

That should import them and fill in the fields correctly. However, this will only be in MJ's database. You'll still want to get that data entered in the ID3 tag. Does anybody know the quickest way to do this? The only thing I can think of is to first make sure that under Settings -> Options -> General, you have "Update tags when file info changes" checked, then select all of the files, right-click, choose Properties. Then choose "Update all files" from the dropdown box, and click Save.

Am I forgetting anything?

try using a program called CD'N'GO at www.cdngo.com

use versions 1.93 or 1.95   the programs are free. Joshy the program author seems to have worked out all the bugs for id3 tag import data.

this program uses cdplayer.ini to store data in c:\windows©dpla.ini

the program is an excellent ripper and tagger as well as player.Check it out!

Thanks for the information...

Doof, I have tried following your advice, using the "Get file information from filename\directory" but this alone does not work. I am puzzled by your subsequent instruction (I am probably being stupid)

When you say: "In the Directories drop down box, choose ARTIST\ALBUM" and "In the Filename dropdown box, type in TRACK#-TITLE"

Where do I access this this drop down box from? (I am using Media JukeBox 7.2.265)

Is the problem Rosoft has written the file name as "##-track name" without any spaces?

oneshot, I will try using www.cdngo.com, what do other people think of this and other rippers? What about the 128 bit .wma format? (I am interested as the free version of MJ will rip to it)
