WM "play command" behaves funny on some screens in Theaterview
« on: January 02, 2015, 08:18:38 pm »

I am using WM commands via remote control using Girder.  I noticed recently that if I am on the home screen in Theater view and I press PLAY, I am taken into the menu (like I pressed enter or OK) instead of play starting.  This happens on some other audio screens as well.

I have verified that I am sending the correct WM command - and it does work from many/most other screens.

try to remap the key under options=>Remote Control=>Manage Commands.

Also you might want to check that the Device Input type is the same as that Girder thing you are using. (also under Remote Control in options)

Are you saying that if you press play on a screen in Theater View without anything selected you believe it should play something? I'm not sure from your description. Because if that is the case it has nothing to do with WM commands. I've found the behavior to be unpredictable. It usually plays the last file that was playing, but not always. This is what I see using the play media key.

I always keep a playlist in my queue - I do not delete it on exit.  If I jump to the now playing screen, then I can press play on my remote (which send the WM play command) and playback starts.  If I try to press play from the main start screen in Theaterview, I am drilled into the menu (audio in this case).

I do not use the internal remote control function in JRiver (mainly because I prefer to use Girder so I can send the WM commands which keeps my screen from coming out of screensaver).

I understand what you are doing with girder. I'm saying that that is a red herring. The behavior you see is the same as if you used a media keyboard or remote, not just something due to WM commands. It is just they way Theater View currently works. You can ask that this functionality be added, but I wouldn't hold your breath as this is a real edge case and I don't think too many people would want to use it this way.

Of course I could be wrong and many do want it. If so, now is the time for you speak up and let JRiver know you require this.
