Podcast Download Naming Isn't Working
« on: February 17, 2015, 10:09:47 pm »

A few screenshots will probably illustrate this best.  I have my Podcasts in MC largely set to tag using the <Default> thing:

This should result in this file path:  M:\Podcasts\Audio\Accidental Tech Podcast\<filename>

This does result in:

Which means my Podcast downloads folder looks like this bit of awesome:

Fixing it is going to be ugly because it will require renaming all of my existing files (some of which can no longer be re-downloaded).

While you're in there, I don't bother with the default Tag filling system because it is so cruddy and limited and old.  As an example, [Series] is the tag that makes the most sense for the podcast "series" title, but that's not one of the options.

Seems like it is all old and built when MC could only handle music tags well.

I'd love Tag on Import for Podcasts.

I should also note, that I can "fix" it by changing the setup like this:

But then I have to manually delete all previously downloaded episodes and re-download them to get them in the right place, which is annoying.  That's on top of the fact that I have to change every single one of my Podcast entries, one by one.  I have around 50.

So... That's cruddy, and the default should, you know, work right.  ;)

I'm pretty sure it used to work right.

Hmmmm...  Maybe I lied.  Looks like I added the [Media Type] part in, and that's what (maybe) mucked it up.  As I said, though, I think this used to work as I'd expected.  Though, perhaps I'm crazy.

Any thoughts or suggestions here?  I can change the default Tag and File Renaming rules in Options, and that does seem to impact the shows I hadn't explicitly altered otherwise.  So that's good, but that doesn't help with any of the actual episodes I've already downloaded.  I suppose I can just use Rename, Move, and Copy to fix this, though.  Right?

It's definitely working. What may not be working is trying to place anything before the <DEFAULT> entry, which I just assumed you wouldn't be able to edit.
Because my podcast directory is the root of the drive, and the renaming rule is:
Code: [Select]
If(IsEqual([Media Type],Video,0),/\Video/\Downloads/\,/\Audio/\Podcasts/\)[Artist]\
(which must have been written a long time ago, as that's not how I'd have set things up now)

I'm pretty sure you can just use the RMC tool to move the existing files.
Try doing that on just the latest file in a podcast, then see if it starts being downloaded again when you update it.

Yep.  I fixed my default settings, ran RMC on the existing files, and all is good and well with the world.

Case closed.
