REQ: Choosing specific folders to import
« on: November 06, 2003, 07:38:21 pm »

Hello:

This is something that I brought up a few months back and there seemed to be some support for something like this.

I have multiple users that like different types of music, but there is some overlap. We have two different libraries. I'd like to be able to import music from specific folders to MC's libraries. I believe King Sparta likened my suggestion to something that you see in Kazaa (which, errr, I don't use) like this:

My workaround up to now has been making separate copies of each music file and putting them in one folder for each of us. Then when we import music, it just requires one change of folder in the dialog box instead of dozens. The folders checked would correspond to each library.

I'd prefer working to segregate songs at this level as opposed to using playlists. It wouldn't normally be a big deal, but we both sync with two iPods as well. Is this doable or a wait until 10.x request?

Thanks in advance for your consideration and, again, keep up the great work.

And while you're at it, add the option to make the selected folders "watched" folders as well...

Why not just import all the music in both libraries,
anything that you DONT like you send to a playlist called: 'Other Guys Music'.
You then set up all your view schemes to NOT include anything in the playlist 'Other Guys Music'.

You can then safely just get on with day to day life and not worry about his songs.

Sure you'd have to manually add his songs to the playlist each time but by the sounds of it you manually are making duplicates of the songs.

This would take no more effort than that.

Doable? Likely?

Thanks for your suggestion. I actually tried that and it seemed a bit more cumbersome than just ripping or downloading tracks into a master directory (the one that I use).  After that, I right click move files that we both like (copy) or she likes (move). Of course, if it's a song I only like, I don't do anything.

I do it once,  I don't worry about it, and we can manage our own playlists to our heart's content.

Take care.
