MC caanot See my NAS
« on: March 19, 2015, 09:08:37 am »

I am loading my MC library for the first time using the "automatic load" as recommended.  It seems to be working but can only see the "sample" music and photo's on the hard drive (12 files).  I am using a new PC with Windows 7 and also have a WD NAS installed on my WIFI network with roughly 12 albums or HiDef sampler files.  Looks like MC cannot see my "Music" file on my other laptop or the WD device files.  Please help.  Thanks.

Thank you, but neither suggestion works.  I am using a Western Digital MyCloud EX2 storage device and JRiver is not picking it up on the network.  My local ISP rep. walked me through loading a JRiver code on a 2nd computer, and now JRiver MC IS picking up those files.  What do I need to do to get the Western Digital NAS to be recognized?
Thanks, all!

Firstly, is your NAS recognised by Windows?
Have you mapped it as one or more lettered drive(s) in Windows?

Great. You may have to tell MC to scan your Z drive and import any media it finds. Try this:
Options>
Library & Folders>
...configure auto-import...>
In the Folders section, click on the Add... button on the right.
Add z:\
Choose Mode: Include this folder and child folders
Tick off the media types you want MC to add to its library, e.g. audio and video
Explore the other options available. If you select run auto import in the background, any further media files you add to z:\ (your NAS), will be recognised and imported by MC.

When you finish and close the options, go to the top menu bar and go to:

Tools>
Import>
Select Run auto import now.

In a few seconds to minutes, all your media will appear and further additions will soon show up in the future too.

Thank you for the thoughtful and understandable response.  I think I misspoke earlier.  Yesterday a western digital person walked me through mapping the nas to my other laptop, and windows IS recognizing it as "z drive. "   However I followed your directions and got the window:  "the directory cannot be found.  Please enter a valid directory that you have permission to access."

Does the nas ALSO have to be mapped to Windows in the client pic I am running Jrmc on???  Plus let me know what to try.

THANKS AGAIN.

Yes, that is the best thing to do - map the NAS drive to Z:\ on ALL computers that will access the files there - clients and servers.

Sorry to bother you again with this question...  It looks like by the end of the day yesterday my server was recognizing my z-mapped NAS drive and playing perfectly.  This morning the server couldn't see anything on the network, then later could see everything BUT the z drive.  At one point I got a window that that warned of a critical error and that the latest version of MC should be re-downloaded -- which I did.

I also noticed I had inadvertently mapped the NAS to windows three separate times -- so I disconnected two of the three (which seemed to have no effect).  Any suggestions at this point?
