Using MC with Ayre DX-5DSD DAC
« on: March 26, 2015, 05:00:47 am »

Hi! Is there anyone here who's using MC with Ayre DX-5DSD as an outboard DAC? If so, what do I choose in audio setup to get it play DSD files properly? DAC's display (I was told) should show DSD 64 in this case. Mine does not. It shows USB 88kHz instead ? Anyone can help me?

Welcome to Interact.  You probably need to use Bitstreaming in MC.  There is a wiki topic.

Assuming you have the correct JRiver setting (/Tools/Options/Audio/Bitstreaming:DSD),
you'd check the dip switches on the back: the first on the left must be set to "Rsrv B”.
This is needed - together with the Ayre USB driver - to play DSD and sample rates over 96KHz.

Thanks for that! There is another switch there: the second on the left. Which position should be that one in?

The second switch, the one marked Rsvd C/Rsvd D, has no use.

You mean it does not matter which position it is in?

Yep! It is not connected.

But if you want to play with switches, you may try the one on the right, marked Listen/Measure. ;)
Actually it is just the selection of 2 different digital filters, Measure gives a better S/N ratio, while, according to Ayre, Listen gives a better sound...
But when I tested the Ayre QB-9DSD (it uses the same DAC board of your DX-5DSD) I preferred the sound of Measure.
(Of course, it depends of your system and personal taste.)

Thank you, Otello! Which DAC do you currently use in your system with MC?
