Switching to Media Center 9
« on: August 23, 2003, 06:06:25 pm »

Is there any reason for me to move from Media Jukebox to Media Center if I have no interest in video?

Organizational abilities are better for one.

The panes make it easier to find what you're looking for.

9.1 has the new tagging mode as well for easy list type tagging and searching. You can quite easily assign multiple genres or moods to a song in MC9.1.

Plus most of the really nice plugins only work on MC9 from what I understand.

Even 9.0.180 is better than MJ8. And I'm patiently waiting for the 9.1 alpha release.

You missed it. We're well into the beta stage now. After this comes the full release.

Sorry, it's that "old" grey matter between my ears, I meant to say "final release". I must of been having a flashback or brain-freeze or something.

On the down side, I switch between audio output devices a lot (I have two audio cards and an audio device on my USB port), and MC seems to have buried the output device selection a level or two deeper in menus.  I'd really like the ability to bring the output device selection to a toolbar on the main screens.  :D

You can always just create two (or more) playback zones and just toggle between them with Ctrl-T; but yes, it would be cool if one could populate the menu bar with these custom zones since clicking is a lot easier than pressing Ctrl-T. :)

Having different audio zones does not necessarily solve this issue as each zone has a separate "playing now".

Also zones were meant to have two or more audio streams play concurrently. I just want to be able to switch between different audio devices -- which I possibly don't want to use at the same time...

make sense???

Yes to MC 9.1 ;D

I tried 9.0--found it confusing and intimidating. I'm not an IT guy or much of a power user of anything. I kept hanging on to the familiar turf of MJ8.

I finally made the switch to 9.1 a few weeks ago. I don't yet use MC for anything but music. The transition to 9.1 has been easy and actually fun to discover the greater flexibility offered by the panes and action window--access to file properties from the main screen--easy access direct to the HD for file management functions, etc. Tagging, moving, renaming are way simpler.

I love it.

Congratulations to the JRiver team for making a great product even better. Thanks.

Yeah, I know.   My suggestion wasn't meant as the solution but rather a workaround.  :D
