Adding new files to Main Library
« on: March 28, 2015, 02:47:10 pm »

I recently downloaded the 2015 sampler from HDTracks to My Music file; then dragged it to my WD MyCloud Ex2 NAS on my wifi network.  When I go to MC all of the NAS files show up in the Drivers and Devices-Explorer- Network section, but some have not loaded into Main Library ... even though I have clicked on Run Import in the Background.

Please help.  Thanks!

Did you first "setup" the Importer by going to Library&Folders>Config Auto-Import and tell MC what folders to watch/import from?

The other piece to this is that MC may have incorrectly Tagged the imported file (for example if you were importing an ISO "movie" file, MC may Tag it as a "Data" (Document), then it would not show up under Videos where you would expect it be. You can setup the Importer so it adds a media Tag to all imports coming from specific folders (like you Music folder get tagged as "Audio" and all your Movie files get tagged as "Video" on import).

Yes, already done.  Any chance we could have a brief telephone conversation?  I need help getting over this hurdle.  I'd be happy to call or send you my phone numbers.  Thanks.

Also, for info, the auto part of the import does not happen immediately, it needs a trigger from the OS. If you want to have immediate access to the media, just run autoimport manually. Make sure the downloaded files follow your path structure and filenaming scheme. You don't want to just dump them in the Music folder.

Thank you both for responding.  I just opened the missing file under the Network/explorer button on the top left margin of MC.  The files came up looking just like the ones already imported.  I clicked on the top buttons to import into library -- and it worked! I am not sure what you mean by file naming scheme and path structure.  What I think I did earlier is downloaded the files to My Music folder... then dragged them over the NAS drive folder labeled "Compilations."

The music selections (in Windows) appear to be pdf files (as per the left sided icon), but when you mouse over each selection an information window comes up that calls them "Media Center .flac" files.  Maybe you can clarify so I don't make the same mistake again (?).  Thanks again.

Thats not what I meant by importing. And I'm not sure what you mean about the "top" buttons.

Next time, on the menu bar, File=>Library=>Import=>Run Auto-import. If you have configured auto import as I understood the file paths are already in there. Don't go clicking on the files through the explorer, that way it willscan everything and make sure the library is up to date.

File paths etc. I just meant that when I buy and download albums from the web, they are never in the same folder structure as mine, so I have to rename them. Same for the filenames. As the auto import is linked to the filepaths you configured, new music has to fall in or under those paths

Thanks again.  Now...

I just clicked on one of the sample titles in the main library, and it played fine.  Then I clicked on another title from another album.  MC acknowledges the selection at the top of the page -- then switches over to the song title and running time, but does NOT begin to play.  I tried this several times with different titles/albums but the timer at the top of the page never starts to tick.  I also tried starting the playing time from the Player button (Play/Pause) at the top of the page but no response.

I appreciate your help very much.

sure no problem. But I'm just not sure you have set up your system correctly or if there is indeed a bug or a problem with your files. Maybe you have an external DAC probelm. And, I don't know what you mean by "sample files". Could you read through the links here and just be sure we are on the same page first? Some of it maybe a little dated, but most of it will still work. Thanks

Thanks,  I seemed to have solved the problem last night re: auto import picking up new material on my NAS drive.  Western Digital customer service said I had to move the "Share" (I would call it a folder) my music is on to the Network page on Windows.  As soon as I did and added an album to that Music library, the Main Library in MC picked it up.

Thanks again for your help. I will read through the wiki's again, however.
