JRiver Media Center 20.0.116 for Mac -- Available Here
« on: June 03, 2015, 12:06:17 pm »

This is the latest version of MC20 for Mac.  Please post bugs here.  Please start a new thread for anything requiring discussion.  Non-bug posts will be deleted.

Download: http://files.JRiver.com/mediacenter/channels/v20/latest/MediaCenter200116.dmg

20.0.116 (6/3/2015)

1. Changed: Custom Resources, Custom Webpages, and Custom Art will now be stored in "~/Library/Application Support/J River/Media Center 20/Data".
2. Fixed: Custom Webpages now load.

20.0.115 (6/2/2015)

1. Changed: Skins folder moved to Application Support so user added skins are preserved when an update is installed.

20.0.113 (5/29/2015)

1. Fixed: Crash importing/playing from network drives on 10.6.8 systems.
2. Changed: Tweaked the audio buffering system to hopefully address audio skipping issues some users are experiencing. Please report results.

20.0.112 (5/28/2015)

1. Changed: Updated the FFmpeg version used for file analysis, transcoding and video playback.
2. NEW: Full support for native DTS-HD decoding.
3. Changed: Use native cache folder on Mac for Media Center's conversion cache: ~/Library/Caches/com.jriver.mediacenter/conversion_cache
4. Changed: Increased audio feeder thread to real-time priority to hopefully address audio skipping issues some users are experiencing. Please report results.

20.0.94 (4/14/2015)

1. Fixed: Audio CD Ripping would sometimes create duplicate track entries in the database.
2. Changed: Streamlined auto-import to reduce extraneous activity when mass changes are made within Media Center.
3. Fixed: Freezes or crashes could occur when importing or converting large batches of WMA format files.
4. NEW: External audio encoders are now supported.
5. Fixed: The group component of the benchmark was slow for the last few builds.
6. Changed: Updated Slovak language file (thanks Peter Lukac).
7. Changed: Updated Japanese translation (thanks Kazuo).
8. Fixed: Handheld device Eject was unreliable.
9. Changed: Revised upward the estimated bitrate of lossless codecs. Makes predictions of how much transcoded music a handheld device can hold more accurate.
10. NEW: Third party DSP plugins (like VST effects) can now be enabled for DLNA and format conversion.

20.0.87 (3/28/2015)

1. Fixed: Tracks on device not in sync were not getting deleted even when the option was enabled.
2. Fixed: Artist or Album names beginning with a period would cause problems syncing with handheld devices.  Now underscores are used in place of leading periods in folder names on the device created during a sync operation.
3. Fixed: After playing a track directly from CD, a message could pop-up saying the disc could not be identified.
4. Fixed: WebKit plugins are now disabled.  Plugins (e.g. Silverlight) could cause crashes and freezes when MC was displaying web pages.
5. Fixed: The drive was identified as /:\ on the CD misread Information dialog.
6. Fixed: Syncing files with conversion enabled would cause files to re-convert on every sync.
7. Fixed: Tracks on device not in sync were not getting deleted even when this option was enabled.
8. NEW: When songs in MC's library are stored on a network share drive, the drive is now bookmarked by MC so if it's not mounted after a reboot, MC will automatically re-mount the drive when needed.
9. Fixed: CD ripping would sometimes fall out of secure mode.
10. Fixed: Many Retina mode scaling improvements.
11. Changed: If there's a custom library field created called Tooltip and it evaluates to non-empty, it will be used for the text of the tooltip.
12. Fixed: Requesting a File List or Cover Art over MCWS for a very slow executing Smart List (ie. Missing Files) could result in all MCWS queries being delayed until the request was completed.
13. Fixed: MOV/MP4 files could have the wrong information in the Compression field.
14. Fixed: Multichannel DSD wrapped by DoPE was overflowing the buffer resulting in noise or crashes.
15. Fixed: Podcasting could download duplicate tracks (only maybe fixed, so testing appreciated).
16. Fixed: Some w64 files did not import/play.
17. NEW: ID3 tags from w64 files are properly imported.
18. Fixed: Playing FLAC+CUE files could result in some tracks being skipped in the recent builds.
19. Changed: A/V sync is maintained more aggressively at the start of video playback.
20. Fixed: Seeking a Linked Zone over Gizmo would cause MC to hang.
21. Fixed: The player evaluating "Playlist Remaining Time" could hang (only maybe fixed, testing appreciated).

1. Fixed: App signing issue on some systems.

20.0.74 (2/21/2015)

1. Fixed: When syncing files to a linux based handheld device (i.e. Android), forward slashes within artist or album names would cause the destination path to be wrong.
2. Fixed: External storage cards on handheld devices were not always showing up in MC without doing a manual re-detect of devices.
3. Fixed: Many CD ripping problem fixes.
4. Fixed: Auto-import was sometimes importing image and 'data' files which aren't supported.
5. Fixed: A CUE parsing issue where the last track would not work because the playback range was parsing incorrectly if the CUE file spanned multiple tracks.
6. Fixed: Reading a SACD ISO with empty data packets could cause a crash.
7. Changed: Made the SACD ISO parser a little more forgiving.
8. NEW: Added a 'Total Tracks' field to the library.  Currently updated from MP3 files, MP4 files, FLAC files, and during CD ripping.
9. NEW: Added a 'Total Discs' field to the library, which is updated from MP3, MP4, and FLAC files.

Thanks Adam, it works perfectly now. Just gotta get the Linux builds to write Data and Skins into the ~/.jriver/Media Center 20/ directory and we should be set.

But I've noticed something when mounting the .dmg file - the window is too small and appears cut off (and thus there's a scrollbar);

Instead of Media Center 20 > Applications appearing vertically like this, maybe they should appear horizontally?

I had issues with the build right before this where it wouldn't open up (just a blue box)...so, when this build came out i trashed it, deleted the JRiver folder in my library and rebooted...then i installed and when i went to launch it the icon on the dock just started going in a really fast circle.  Hard to explain, so i did a screencast of it:

http://youtu.be/DkhGSvWL1bw?hd=1

After closing and reopening it seems ok...i'll let you know.

Where exactly is the "~Application Support/Data" directory supposed to be located? After installing 20.116 and running it there is no "~Library/Application Support/Data" directory. Even if there was, shouldn't it include something specific to identify Mediacenter (JRiver or MediaCenter 20) in the path name? What is the exact path name?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Guy's,

for those who can't find JRiver in the Application Support folder this helped me.

Since Mac OS 10.7 the Library folder is not displayed in the Finder anymore. To navigate to the Application Support folder please follow these steps:

    Open the Finder
Go to the Menu Bar and open the "Go" menu.
Select the entry: "Go to Folder..."
Enter the path of the Application Support folder:
    ~/Library/Application Support

Tip: You can display the Library folder if you press the ALT-Key while in the "Go" menu.

Regards,
Marcel

Upgraded from 0.94 to 0.116 and all my weird glitches with playback on Mac 10.9 seem resolved. Used to have lags, clicks, skips and interface hangs, all fixed. And WOW, the sound quality is just amazing. Never better. More bass, dynamics, clarity, more musical, thank you!! It's stunning.

What changes were made between MC19 and 20 for audio path? You used to have options for buffering. I do like the current behavior as opposed to the initial queuing from MC19. Just curious as I wouldn't want you to mess with the audio at this point. I'll keep this version forever as an audio reference for future versions, and I'll let you know if it goes backward. :)

There are still some long standing interface bugs. I used to go back and forth between having loudness and DSP, parametric EQ on and not (before the recent improvement). When turning off parametric EQ with it's check box, I would exit and everything seemed to work ok, until I went to reopen it. The hover over the blue "eq" icon (next to random) doesn't pull up the menu DSP and Playback menu anymore. I have to go back to options and once I make a change via that interface, the hover works again. I think I've hit similar intermittent problems somewhere else, but can't recall where. Maybe it was with the DSP Analyzer. Now that I look at it after a long hiatus, it seems nicer, smoother somehow. Cover view still doesn't work for me.

Sorry to report that we still have some audio and now track change issues. When adjusting volume right after a track change, it was clearly cutting in and out, very very fast. It sounded a lot like a needle skipping on a record. I'm very sorry to report that it's intermittent. I was unable to reproduce this after several tries. I also think it's happened several times in the last day with different interface triggers (ie I was doing something with trackpad), but the other occurrences were so quick that it was hard to tell. The volume change drops occurred after a change from 24/96 track to a 16/44 track. The configurable gaps between tracks also seem broke now. If I set it to 6sec, I should hear a 6 second delay when I click on a new song, right? It's still immediate.

Turn off any DSP.  Tools > Options > DSP Studio.

I verified that the gap setting doesn't work with DSP and loudness off. I can't be sure the noise event was without dsp, but I've been listening most of the time without DSP since upgrading to 116. Another couple bugs to report. Maybe a new bug, when transitioning between radio like radio paradise to a library song, say a CD rip, will sometimes cause a long delay, about 5-6 seconds. It's very intermittent. It happened twice with many tries in 30 minutes: once the MC display froze (little spectrum analyzers) and the other it didn't. In either case the radio keeps playing (I think). A possible long standing bug, the ogg vorbis stream with song title data from RP doesn't show song/artist info. I thought this link worked properly with firefox but now I don't see the data and itunes won't play it:

http://stream-dc1.radioparadise.com/rp_192m.ogg

This last one is a long shot, Firefox has been hanging quite a lot recently and it started sometime close to my installing MC 20.0.94. Usually every 1-2 days but sometimes multiple times in one sitting with moderate use. The interface freezes and I need to force quit. I've never seen FF this bad. I do keep several apps running while using MC: FF with many tabs, activity monitor, text edit, etc. I wonder if FF and MC are interacting somehow? I'll try web surfing while using iTunes (blech) for music instead of MC and see if that changes.

Sometimes volume control from keyboard is refused, I believe only while in other apps. Using 2012 Mac Mini, wireless Mac KB, OS 10.9, and internal volume control. I get white symbol on screen indicating that volume is fixed? Sometimes or often, going back to MC to adjust volume will resolve this issue, but I recall that sometimes I need to close and restart MC. Most of the time KB volume just works regardless of other apps. I'll try to get more details if you'd like.

I am getting periodic UI freezes.  For example, the attached screenshot was taken while MC was NOT playing anymore.  It played through multiple songs with the UI frozen.  And I could actually still use buttons, but the UI itself just stayed frozen.  So, for example, I could turn the volume up and down with the volume slider.  The volume "button" itself didn't move, but the volume control responded correctly.

This has happened three or four times in the past three days (I've been using 20.0.116 pretty heavily).  Quitting and restarting fixes it until next time it happens.

(No dropouts though!)

I have had the UI freezes for at least 3/4 of a year but it usually occurs in the audio analysis window not the main MC window Quitting and restarting fixes it until next time it happens ,resizing the window makes the UI graphically update the changes when this happens but any new changes are not displayed until I resize the window again.
