The wiki is not a complete user guide. For example, under Television, there is no entry about how to set up for recording a program.

Check Interact for this discussion, it comes up on a regular basis and the response is the same - check the Wiki &/or search Interact. That's all there is.

F1 within MC also sends you to the Wiki. It's ingrained.

My personal opinion resulting from observation is that help for MC is organic and incremental just like the development of the software itself. Interact plays a big part on both counts. I feel as though half my posts responding to requests for help are, "check the Wiki". It's not perfect but in the majority of cases, it gets you started on the right path. The Wiki content does get updated with a familiar organic style but the cycle time is not as quick as Interact.

In short, if the Wiki hasn't answered your problem (and I'm very grateful that you're looking there in the first instance), then come here and post a thread..  ;)

We switched from using a formal manual to a search/wiki/forum model about ten years ago. 

To take your example of TV, just documenting that would be an enormous job and one we couldn't do alone.  There are so many devices, protocols, EPG's, countries, use-cases, etc, that it's just not economically feasible.  And even if we did it, the world would have moved on by the time we finished.  The EPG situation is changing very quickly now because of changes Microsoft made for Windows 10.

If the external conditions remained stable (OS, devices, protocols, use cases ...) it might be possible, but in the end I don't think it would be better.  Many of the most useful and interesting posts come from a wide array of end users who are keenly interested in a particular corner of our universe.  They are among the most knowledgeable people on the planet in their field of expertise.  Collectively, they are far better qualified to write on these subjects, and because of the forum and the wiki, you have the benefit of everything they've written.

For the sake of clarity, I'm speaking on behalf of JRiver.
