  • Enjoying life with a little music....

Hi Folks,

I finally decided to  upgrade my MC from build 291 that I was using till now to the new build 307. Everything seems to work Ok so far but there one thing that really bother me:
All my custom "column selection and ordering" are gone. Everything got back to the default "Name/Artist/Album..." scheme. I understand that this may have been necessary but in order to retrieve my custom columns settings I have to use the "multiple RMC/Column to show command".

I think the GUI to select the visible columns has to be reworked in MC. In the current GUI, each time you select/deselect a column you are sent out of the menu so you have to RMC/find a field again and again. I did  it again this time, it took me about 20 minutes to reconfigure my MC columns in my different views.

So please, please, can you think about another GUI to select  the column visibility (a window with checkboxes per columns and an Ok button would be fine). I think this is especially useful now that MC has 55 default fields and many more customs (14 on my side).

thanks,

Christian

I second that motion. It is extremely tedious to reduce the visible column count. I reduced it to bare minimum and applied it to all views.

How about a "column chooser" popup like Outlook's.?  You can drag columns from the chooser to the place in the list you like and drag any column off the list to get rid of it.

Hmmm.  Maybe an enhancement to the action window so it does this.

Yes,
I have reorganized my columns at least 5 or 6 times during the MC9 development cycle and it takes a lot of time.

Agreed.  It's very tedious now...

If more voices will make Jim consider reworking this before v.10, then add me to the list!  This is the one and only aspect of the software that I despise with a passion.

(Of course, to put that in perspective, I suppose there are hundreds and hundreds features which I love beyond reason, so I guess it all evens out in the end. ;))

I agree too!!! I would like a right click/delete function for unwanted columns.

count me in too...

By the way, in England, the phrase 'on the wagon' means 'to turn teetotal'. Surely this is taking things a bit far innit?? Or, maybe MC is more powerful than we all thought....

What is this, a democracy?

I do agree with Cmagic - I hate having to add or remove columns.  I find myself making a lot of mostly useless VSs just to avoid having to modify the columns.

But I think I'll reserve my vote for functionality items...  web media, anyone.  Pocket?

*attaches new cart to the back of the old waggon* - sorry folks - ur wagon got too crowded - I want my own! *then jumps on new wagon* :)

More important to me though is some way of organising the fields for the 'tagging' - the current way is just a pain in the ass :(

Need field grouping!

The list of fields is just becoming HUGE - which is good in terms of it lets us have control - I've added tons myself.

The problem is though they're just all in one big list and it's getting really unmanageable!

I was just about to jump on this wagon when it veered off down another road.

A simple long list with checkboxes gets my vote.  This has always been a shortcoming of MC but it only really gets highlighted when a new build comes along and removes all your customisation.  Most of the time we don't need to make so many changes so we forget what a PITA it must be for newbies setting MC up for the first time.

You're right JLee this problem only surface when installing a new build but still, that does not mean the procedure should be tedious only because it is used once in a while, n'est ce pas ?

As for the GUI details, a list with checkboxes is fine as long as the list is persistant until all the selections are made.

Have a nice day folks !

I'd suggest two panes...  the left for fields available to add and the right for fields to remove.  I'd put the standard single (act on selected) and double (act on all) arrows between the two and a set of up/down arrows on the right to allow qucik resorting (in addition to the GUI drag and drop that already exists.
