MC9 download
« on: November 23, 2004, 11:57:13 pm »

I bought MC 9 last year and wanted to try MC10 when it came out so I installed it back in May or something. Once I found out that my code for 9 wasn't good for 10, I decided to go back to 9. Now I realize I don't have the install for 9 anymore. Is it available for download? I can give my registration information if need be.

Obviously I haven't been online in awhile, remodeling a basement absorbs all your time. Now I'm hosting a party Saturday and I sure as hail don't want to use MusicMatch of WMP10.

MC9 has been replaced by MC10, but a copy of MC 9.1 can be found here:
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/old/MediaCenter91319.exe

Have a nice party  ;)

It sure would be useful for those of us running v9.0 if it were available for download from there as well.

Jay,

You have told that you like MC 9.0 more than 9.1 or 10. Could you tell why?

I upgraded from MJ8 and used 9.0 only briefly before 9.1 came out and I don't recall (anymore?) anything special.

Thanks, Alex

9.1 is a vastly different beast than 9.0. I remember thinking it was more like a major upgrade than a minor upgrade. Weren't panes introduced in 9.1? And I think mandatory skinning as well.

I just like the simplicity of 9.0. It does everything I need it to do and it's been stable as a rock, (once I got rid of WinMe!), it hasn't frozen up or crashed once in 15 months.

The only reason I've had to reinstall MC has been due HD failures. MC 9.0 manages my now 28K of mp3 VBR Hi files without any difficulties. My only real complaint is that it occaisionally drops links to some album covers from time to time. Everything else works great!

I also run MC 9.0 on a "portable" system that resides mostly in my van and occaisionally I "hook up" to the P.A. system at my local watering hole and provide the music for the band breaks. The "portable" is an IBM Thinkpad & a 200g USB HD.

I don't need all the panes, tho there are a few other features in 9.1 & 10 that I would have liked, but not enuff yet to make the move.

I'm one of those "Don't fix it if it ain't broke" kind of people and I also don't have  that aching need to always have the latest stuff - heck, I drive a 1964 Ford Econoline (ex MongomeryWard delivery van, all in original condition & paint tho faded, 368 521 orig miles). 8)

PS: Thanks to you Alex, I now have a copy of the 9.0.exe file burned to a disc, however I'm sure there are others out there like me that didn't permanently save that exe file and are now forced to "upgrade" because it's no longer available, (even on the ftp server with the other "old" stuff as it should be).

I see.

It would be nice to play with MJ 8 and MC 9 again. Perhaps next time when I install a new system I will start with MJ 8 and upgrade through all MC versions.

By the way, I posted a backup copy of MC 9.0.180 to the Gmail account imjustagamer opened for us, so it is back on the menu now.   ;)
