I have no idea to be honest ... try just starting a new thread in the main MC forum, there are already a couple of [req] threads in there already.

Marko: love the trans-3.  Looks great!

10th: I also love the brushed metal skin you did.  Could you perhaps take Drowbe's wide version and give it the same look?

Drowbe:  Great work, love your skins too.  Especially the wide one.

You guys have done such great work, I'm having a hard time deciding which skin to use.

Rhino you da man for you work on a fantastic plugin!

I love the playing now skins and have downloaded one, but how do I "apply" it? i.e. how do I get MC to use the skin?

Sorry to waste your time!

When the pop up comes up, right click on it and select skins, and then whatever skin.
Right click again and set as default.

1. Launch "Edit Main Configuration"...it should be in the folder "PlayingNow" in your start menu.

Right, Im going to be really daft - where is the start menu?

Many thanks (for your patience and the answer!)

I've plundered Drowbe's work on the [banned] playing now and JC's great brushed metal skins. I mixed them together and here is the result:

You can get it here http://www.people.cornell.edu/pages/gr37/BrushedMetal.zip

I absolutely love this skin, but when I run it in MC 9 I can an error pop-up saying it could not save in ther James Dickson/playing now folder. Does this mean I have to set the skin up in that folder? At the moment I have it unzipped in the right skins folder alongside other playing now skins.....

Thanks

OK Excuse me - I just edited the config.ini file and renamed the folder - working brilliantly now. Thanks for the great skin and sorry to be a nuisance ? ::)

The *start menu* is located in the lower-left corner of your screen on your taskbar (assuming you have the default settings for your operating system).  It is where you launch most of your proframs from.  It says "Start" on it.

Go to Start > Program Files > James Dickson > Playing Now and edit the "Main Configuration" file.

OK - i should do more work before bothering you-all. I've reinstalled and see where its putting the start menu items. Thanks for your patience.

I love what you did with the brushed metal skin. it's great to have the stars back again. the ipods looks so tacky and made the design feel messy. you should post the link to this in the brushed metal thread too so that everyone sees it.

I've actually also modified JC's mega-me (this time plundering the blue steel skin...). It matches the PN well. Here is a screenshot:

You can download it here : http://www.people.cornell.edu/pages/gr37/brushedmetal246b.zip

(If anyone can tell me how to make a skin install file, I'll gladly replace the zip...)

These are awesome playing now skins!  I use IOth's Brushed Metal version all the time.

Any chance that up will adapt Drowbe's 600px version to Brushed Metal?

It's on my agenda, but I'm in the process of moving my life from one continent to another  :P, so there is only a very slim chance that it will get done any time soon  :-[

OK, so I'm a bit behind on this, but I only just got round to trying to set it as default...

I couldn't see a "set as default" option. Am I going blind or what?

Presumably you are talking about version 1.2?

Hm, well, I'm definitely confused.

Mine doesn't have it, but looking in the Plug-in Manager it lists it as 1.01.00.00.

I don't get that though - I never installed anything before 1.2, and the menu it installed under the start menu is clearly labelled 1.2!

It installed itself under C:\Program Files\James Dickson\PlayingNow 1.2 and I even put some extra skins under there, which it sees... But should it not appear as 1.2 in the Plug-in Manager?

Did the "set as default" option come with version 1.2?

Rob, The version number thing is a lil' oversight ;)

Here's an image to show what you're looking for, and where.....

It *should* be there for you :)

OK, well, that's even weirder then!

I definitely don't have the option! :-(

It goes straight from "random" to the list of skins....

Here's what it says in the Version.txt file:

//  1.2.0.0      05/11/03
//      +      Added ability to set the current skin as the default on the right-mouse menu.

If you don't have the menu option then you're not using v1.2.

Uninstall PN, do a search for PlayingNow.dll on your HDD and delete any it finds then install v1.2 which can be downloaded from the interface plugins page.

OK, thanks....

I'm pretty sure I didn't ever install anything else, but to be sure, I uninstalled it and then redownloaded and reinstalled it last night and it still wasn't working.

I'll do the extra step of deleting any copies of the DLL when I get home this evening.

Still don't know what was going on there, but at least I'm fixed now.

Don't quite get your version numbering scheme :-) but I was running 1.2.0.98 rather than 1.2.0.0.

I'd gone through the whole process exactly as you'd expect - uninstalling it from within MC, uninstalling it by running the uninst.exe... that got rid of the one and only copy on the hard disk of playingnow.dll, along with the rest of the files, downloaded it all again from the website, but still got 1.2.0.98 back along with the 1.2.0.98 version.txt.

In the end, I actually had to open up the mjp, get the link from inside it and manually download the ZIP file and run pn.exe from inside it!

So somewhere something was caching an older version. No idea where - it can only really have been Media Center doing it though!

Glad you got it running.

My versions work backwards for beta's, e.g.:

1.2.0.99 ... beta 1
1.2.0.98 ... beta 2

then production goes:

1.2.0.00
1.2.0.01

So I can tell instantly if someone is using a beta.

The version display in MC has been fixed in 1.3.

I think I'll also add an about box option in the right-mouse menu.

Marko and others - are you going to update your PN skins to accomodate the word wrapping in version 1.2.1.99?
