Does Anyone Have Or Know Where There Is A Simple List Of Music That Has Charted

I would like to compare what I have on the charts, And if I don't have it buy it.

It would be sort of neat if this was incorporated into MC so we can keep our music libraries up to date.

Yesterday I found a 1970's song that I did not have, and it was a good song.

Listening to: 'Give me just a little more time' from 'Give me just a little more time' by 'THE CHAIRMEN OF THE BOARD' with JRiver Media Center 21

  • Requires "iTunes or better" so I installed JRiver

Wikipedia has all Billboard number-one singles from 1940 to the present. You can sort by artist to make it easier to compare to your existing collection.

I just saw that on October 17, 1970, The Jackson 5 had a number one song I'll Be There. Two years later Michael Jackson had a #1 song on October 14 of 1972 called Ben. I don't think I've ever heard it.

Hi KingSparta,

Sounds like I am going through the same exercise as you - comparing the music charts to what I own in my digital music library (which I listen to with MC 21) and collecting what I don't have.  I'm currently digging into my favorite area of Pop, R&R, R&B, and Doo Wop Oldies hits.

You can see the Billboard Hot 100 archives from 1950 to present here:

http://www.billboard.com/archive/charts/1965/hot-100

At this site, you can click on Issue Date to drill down to the Hot 100 list for any week with songs ranked #1 to #100.

And here is a web site with links to One Hit Wonders.

BTW, if you like the song "Give Me Just A Little More Time" by Chairmen Of The Board you might be interested to know that General Norman Johnson, lead singer of that group, also had hits with The Showmen with the New Orleans rock and roll anthem "It Will Stand" (1961) and Carolina beach music classic "39-21-40 Shape" (aka "39-21-46"). Two other great Oldies songs.

yep, I found another song scrubbing the lists.

I just wish this could be done faster, and I had good lists to go off of.

Here's a database with columnar lists of songs, so even though it's screen views, it's readable and fairly easy to work with.  The catch?  Well, to use it for more than casual lookups requires a membership fee.  But take a look.

that last one looks very good for getting data from.

Monday I will look at it more, and maybe put it in a spread sheet, if I can cut and paste it.
