How many files can JRiver handle?

I have an i7 processors and 16gb of RAM. I now 51,000 tracks in it. But its very slow.

It isn't MC.  Many users have more than 100,000 files, some more than 500,000.

Antivirus?

Network?

More details might help.

I should have been more specific, I mean when I double click in play doctor to play everything at random

Jim's answer stands...I have over 285,000 files on a w7 dual core 4g memory and it is very snappy :)

I wouldn't use Play Doctor to play everything.  Just use a normal play and shuffle it.

Jim makes a very good point.  You can easily add your whole library, or a subset of it to Playing Now, then "reshuffle" the Playing Now list to randomize it.  Player > Shuffle > Reshuffle .  Or <control>-R .

There are also much better ways to listen to a big collection than "full random".  You can make automatic mixes based on genres, years, etc.  What's interesting is MC can make these as smartlists, but the lists are different every time you select them!  The "mix" modifier and the "limit" modifier can be used to produce really interesting results.
