Changing read-only files?
« on: September 06, 2003, 11:52:30 pm »

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but is there a way to change the "read-only" status of a music file.  For some reason, a whole bunch of mp3 files someone sent me were all read-only, and any changes I make are only "surface" changes, but the real tags are not changed.  Is there any way to get past this?

Thanks,
Eric

Select files > Right click > properties

then uncheck "read only" and click the OK button.

Job done.

Eric, no such thing as a dumb question. If you don't know, asking someone who does is a good way to learn.
Most likely the reason the files are read only is because your source had them saved to cd. When you copy files from cd or dvd to your hard drive, they are always copied with read only flags set.

King, I added the extra step just in case Eric was looking for the attrib setting on the context menu.

I was going from memory, was not sure if it was "OK", Apply" or as In Star Trek "Engage"

Thank you all very much!!!  I really didn't think that there was a way to do it!  And very easy, too!

Good vibes,
Eric :D :D :D
