Wondered if the streaming of Cover art had been fixed?  If not, can we add this to the "to be fixed" list?

How does/did this memory leak manefest itself?

I don't suppose it has anything to do with MC9 freezing after a CD change?

They will be in a beta release of 9.1, maybe this week, definitely by next week.

Phenomenal job. I assume this was referring to the handle leak I reported; if it isn't, you apparently fixed it by accident anyhow  :)

Not to pick nits, but MC still leaks one (just one) handle per track I rip. I wouldn't bust a gut over it; you already got a 3-order-of-magnitude improvement in a single release.

Could you try the 180 build and see if it fixes your problem? If it doesn't, please email me and I'll send you a version with more diagnostics in it.

I was listening to www.RadioParadise's MP3 web radio stream, and when I tried to re-start playing after virtually any condition (stop, close/reopen, lose internet connection and re-establish/push play . .  . MC9 locks-up and then crashes . .  no message just *POOF*
Made no diff clicking 'start playing', or clicking the playlist, playing now, etc. same result.  I have seen this before but not consistantly like this.

Also, question . . .
Can I view photos without losing my music?  I like to whistle while I work   ;)

If you're in thumbnail mode, the keyboard arrow keys don't work as expected.

Up and Down always reset you to the beginning of the row instead of the image directly above or below the current one.

Left goes left but 2 at a time.

Right won't advance past the 2nd column.  If you're already past the 2nd column, it does nothing.

there is no track 32 in MC9
« Reply #12 on: June 05, 2003, 05:13:38 pm »

This is very old bug from MJ8.  I reported this bug over a year, but I've never seen any reply or fix.  I wish if JRiver guys see and check this.  Anyway, the problem is:

If a sound file has track number 32, the track number in MC9 becomes 0.  Either from mp3 or apl file.  The track number become 0.  All other track numbers from track 1 to 31 and 33 to 34 wont be changed.  However, only 32nd track's track number become 0.

Please fix this very strange problem too if you can.  Thx.

My post regarding track number 32 was wrong.  There was no problem on MC9.  Thank you for the help, Marko.

Some wishes still remaining with MC9:

-Alarm Clock
In my opinion this is one of the last features MC is lacking in order to become a full replacement for my home stereo.
It would be so great if there was a possibility to go to sleep with one playlist and be woken up the next morning by another one, at a different volume level if possible.

-Suppurt for cue-files
There are many cases in which it is better to rip a whole record to just one file (and keep the track data in a .cue file ) instead of into one for each track. I'anxious to see MC support this

-flac- and shn-support
Most music I rip myself is encoded with Lame, Ogg Vorbis or Monkeys Audio. Still lots of files in my library are of .shn- or .flac-format. It would be unbelievably much work to convert all of those files. I can't wait for MC to directly support those file types. I think read support would be enough.

-Linux port
MC is the last reason left keeping me from finally changing completely to Linux. Linux can be a great, stable and cheap os fo a living room multi-purpose media server...

MC rocks!

This is a bug with older Microsoft common controls. (virtual data, owner-drawn thumbnail list)  We haven't been able to figure out a workaround other than install XP :(

Just after I finished downloading v180, the post went up about 9.1 beta, so I decided not to bother installing v180.

Anyway, this "bug" has been in every build, so I doubt it was fixed by v180.  With that said...

This is really just a nit-pick, actually, but when the Rating column is visible (any view), if your mouse goes out of focus via the column header, the rating field for the top-most visible track remains red, i.e., readied for updating.

BUGS:

1.  Skinned scroll bar.  When the scroll bar is clicked at the extreme top or left edge, the screen immediately moves to the top/left instead of simply moving one page.  This is non-standard Windows behavior and does not occur without any skinning.

2.  Right-Click on Item in Tree.  When an item (like an artist or album) is right clicked in the tree, there is a choice called "File Properties".  When selected it should bring up the File Properties window for every track for the item.  Sometimes is does, and other times is brings up the window which says "no files selected".  I have yet to figure out the pattern for when it works and when it does not work.  It worked great in v8.

3.  Playing Now.  When I play music using RemoteServer, the "Playing Now" screen does not update on the main computer screen where MC is running.  And if I click "Playing Now" on the main system it doesn't update either.  I must click on something else in the tree first and then click on "Playing Now" for it to update.

4.  CD Burn Window.  DELeting a track works now, but the other problem remains, about order changes in the CD burn window.  And when clicking on BurnCD the screen draw is very sloooooooooooooow.  I can see all the individual buttons get drawn.

Also, moving the order of the tracks around makes a mess of the list, sometimes the tracks are moved, other time, duplicates appear.  This bug has been verified by others in other threads.

CHANGE-REQUESTS:

1.   Toolbar Text.  I request a return to the v8 set of choices where I can have Selective Text on Right and No Text Labels and TEXT and ICONS (or whatever it was called).

2.   Auto Expanding Tree on program startup to a selected view or playlist, a default.  (like MediaLibrary->Artist->Album/Artist)

3.   Artist/Album/Track sorting to eliminate a user list of anchored strings for sorting purposes.  For example, to not consider the "The " in "The Rolling Stones" if "The " was in the user list of anchored strings to ignore.

4.   mjextman.exe : I'd like the ability to list multiple commands to execute for mjextman.exe to avoid multiple calls to accomplish the same commands.

5.   SleepTimer Plugin time display is hard to read.  I request that the darkened elements of the characters be totally gone, not just darkened, for easy readability.  Or simply use a non-segmented font, an easy to read font.

QUESTIONS:

1.   Does MC support burning 99 minute CDR's if the burner supports it?

If i set MC9 screen size it does not remember where it was when i re-start it.

this started for me about the time it was reported in a build that said it fixed this bug.

Possible Bugs:

1.  Using TV tuner:  Manually select 1st channel or enter using keypad, channel tunes fine.  Manually select 2nd channel, or enter using keypad,  MediaCenter just quits.  Completely disappears.  Using the arrows at the bottom of the TV window to navigate, works fine.  Can change channels up and down with no problem.

2.  Press "Stop" (square) button while watching TV, MediaCenter just quits.  Completely disappears.

3.  No sound with TV.  I've tried all audio out settings.  I get sound fine using ATI's TV application.

Using ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon 7500 card.  Video Driver: 7.84-030228a1-008040c

Thanks!

If you're using a WDM driver, it should work fine.  If it isn't, then either the setup in MC is wrong or the driver has problems.  You might try searching here and then  on google to see if you can find similar problems with ATI drivers.  If you want to discuss it, please find an existing TV thread with driver problems or start a new one.  It helps if you can read old threads first.

Dragging and dropping View Schemes from one View Scheme Group to another doesn't work in this build. Not sure what build this started with, but I know for sure that it wasn't working in the previous one either.

Not sure if this can be considered a bug, or a feature. Got tired of playing with 9.1 so I installed 9.0.180 over the top. No problem except library needed to be restored. Still no problem.

Kind of checking out settings and stuff when I notice I have a nice new addition to DSP Studio - DirectX Hosting. And it works.  ;D

Any chance of getting VST plug-in support as well? More free plug-ins vs. DirectX.

MC destroys ID3v2 comment tags:

I just discovered that Media Center 9.0.179 (trial version) always adds the following multiline comment to the ID3v2 comment tag:

MediaCenter
9.0.179

This destroyed another multiline comment tag that was already in the file. Because it hasn't been reported as fixed I assume that it's still there in build 180.

But why are these values in the comment tag? Wouldn't it be better to use another ID3 frame like TXXX for this information?

Maybe...

For Anyone wondering, basicly Txxx works the same way as the COMM tag that MC9 uses.

How ever i see no reason why J river should worry about other programs that do not access the COMM tag properly.

There maybe reasons they used it that I have no Idea about. and it might have somthing to do with Lanuage support in the future (Just Guessing) that the COMM tag Supports that the Txxx does not.

I do know MJ9 COMM tags are a better way than MJ8

BIG Problem - Dragging a track from the main window into any of the view schemes causes :-

-   MC freezes for a minute or so
-   then tries to connect to 6 radio websites that were held in a .mpl file under my MJ8 folder
-   then tries to connect to four radio websites that were held in a .asx file that belongs to WMP7
- then freezes with a lot of HD activity (I assume it's searching for more websites)
- then locks up often causing a reboot from the nasty blue screen
- then asks if I want to install Real Jukebox

I've since deleted the .mpl and the .asx file but it still goes into excessive HD activity before it finally locks up and giving the Not Responding message with alt+ctrl+del

This problem has been there for 5 or 6 releases - I'd be really grateful if you can check it out as it's giving me a real big problem - thanks

All other apps that use drag/drop are working ok.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AND another big problem - add a track to playing now
then go onto the playing now screen
then right click a track and hit play
MC shuts down with :-

MEDIA JUKEBOX caused an invalid page fault in
module MP3ICONTROL.DLL at 017f:04cc1cbd.

MC is the last reason left keeping me from finally changing completely to Linux. Linux can be a great, stable and cheap os fo a living room multi-purpose media server...

I would like to strongly second this one - for me though I'm only interested in the MC Server being ported. . .

BUGS:

- Changing list style is resetting the search string :(
- Created a new field called: Country - its a string and in the category group: Display
I try to edit the values for any of my images - either one by one or in bulk and it just DOES NOT update the tags after I enter a value in the properties box. Tried doing it manually inline too and it wont change it.

Request:
- we can enter the keywords for fields but we have no way of knowing if the keyword we enter is already used or not.
I like to keep my searches quick so I abreviate all the words but it's impossible to tell if I've already used an abreviation so I could end up having two fields with the same keyword which wouldn't work - can MC please check to see if the keywords we enter are already being used by another field and have it warn us if they are.

When manually entering Track info prior to ripping, when YADB fails to find, the last track always reverts to Track # rather than the name entered in the dialogue box.

After installing on WinNt 4.0 SP6 I get the following MessageBox error when starting the application:

Media Jukebox.exe - Entry Point Not Found

The procedure entry point MonitorFromRect could
not be located in the dynamic link library USER32.dll.

Reverting back to MediaCenter90168.exe causes the problem to go away.

Both SHN and FLAC writing support is there through enc_External.dll, given that you have the respective command line encoders.

FLAC playback support is probably in the works.

And Shorten / .shn support has finally arrived, observe:

SHN plugin for MJ8 / MC9 released! :)

Can confirm this strange behavior on NT4SP6 with 9.0.180.
9.0.176 works fine.

Please fix.

DX Host plugin in MC 9.0?

Not sure if this can be considered a bug, or a feature. Got tired of playing with 9.1 so I installed 9.0.180 over the top. No problem except library needed to be restored. Still no problem.

Kind of checking out settings and stuff when I notice I have a nice new addition to DSP Studio - DirectX Hosting. And it works

Is there a file I could download to start playing with this? It's obviously going to be a while before 9.1 is ready for prime time, but I'd really like to start playing with DX support.

Just installed my Hauppauge WinTV PCI card and find that when I go to scan for channels, MC APPEARS to lock up after channel 10.   However, if I leave it alone for about 5 minutes, it completes the scan and shows me my channels.  This could be bad for people who feel that the program has locked up and kills it.  BTW, 9.1 dowsn't have this prob...

Also, when I go to record a program MC says I can't watch while recording???  That kinda defeats the purpose of recording now doesn't it?  On the recording note, when I do record something (what I don't know since I can't see it) there are 2 files created in the Video directory.  It's the same file with a different name.  Is MC supposed to erase one of these?

Is the TV output supposed to be that dark?  I have to manually increase the brightness in the TV config console, but that setting isn't saved when I exit.  Also, are the bottom 4 sliders supposed to move?  They don't for me, nor is the Auto checkbox selectable for them.  I'm really interested in getting the TV functions to work correctly since I have a 9800 Pro and run dual 21in monitors... :)

Any suggestions?  Thanks all!

phatrabt

PS:  I'm at work so no version info, but I know it's 9.0.180.  It's the latest version and I have all the latest drivers from Hauppauge and for my hardware.

This a limitation of your device, and a number of other similar devices. You can preview and record at the same time, but you have to reduce the resolutions for preview and/or capture.

Read more on this in MC Help file, under TV Tuner/TV FAQ.

There is a purpose for the TempCaptureFile.AVI. It is supposed to be reused for different recording sessions.

These behaviors are driver dependent. Hauppauge WinTV driver does not seem to remember the settings well. Also, whether a slider is enabled or disabled depends completely on the driver.

JimH says its a bug, so I am posting it here.

When you have mixed media playlists containing both OGG and MP3 (MP3 and anything else, really) and you want to send them to an iPod, you MUST use the force conversion which converts ALL files. A much better solution would be to only convert those files which are not in the native format of the iPod.

I was playing music and listening over headphones while doing e-mail on a different PC from the one that Media Center is installed on.  After a while of listening, the music just turned off.

Ah-hah, I realize...that computer is set to screensave after 5 minutes, turn off the monitor after 15 minutes, and turn off the hard drives after 1 hour, and never go into standby.  I had been listening for about an hour, so I guess the hard drives turned off.

Unfortunately, nothing would get the computer to respond to anything.  Normally, in this state, moving the mouse or hitting a key turns on the screen and spins up the drives.  I can also access it from the network and the same thing happens.  But, with MC playing music, the only thing I could do was hit the reset button.

In addition, when I logged back in MC couldn't open the library because it was corrupt.  Luckily, I do a daily backup, so I didn't lose anything but the "Now Playing".

I know there are newer versions of MC available, but I'd be surprised if this bug is fixed in them.

The machine is an Intel D865PERL motherboard with a P4 2.4C with Hyperthreading disabled (since I run Win2K, why enable it?) and 1GB of RAM.

I had a similar problem using MC 9.1 but I don't blame MC.  In the end I just disabled standby mode and all has been well since.  I can't really see how standby mode provides any benefit. To switch off the monitor after n minutes is sensible but standby seems to be more trouble than it's worth.

Here's the thread:

Note that my machine is set to never go into standby.  Only the hard drives shut down, and this does not normally happen if something is active.

For example, if I am converting a large group of files from WAV to MP3 using command line LAME, or if I pause a game and then go eat dinner, etc., then the hard drives never shut down.

Sorry - I did a very bad job of reading your post!  However, isn't the result the same?  Going into standby is supposed to be 'low power' mode - a bit like switching the hard drives off.  What's the point?  A marginal saving of electricity?  A bit of extra life in your hard drive?  Does anyone keep a HDD long enough these days for it to wear out?  It'd get outdated or too small for our needs before it wore out surely?

My power options are just set to switch the monitor off.

A lot less noise.

Shutting off the three 7200 RPM drives kills a lot of noise right there.  Then, since there is less heat, my fans spin slower (or stop altogether).

When you have 7 computers in one room, anything you can do to get machines that aren't being used to stop making noise and heat is a good thing.

But, my problem is that I was using that computer, with Media Center playing music, yet it still went into a "power saving" mode.

DVD players often turn off the screensaver while they play...MC could do this too.

OK, it is now officially "worse than that".

The only power saving setting I had was "turn off monitor", and if I do that and Media Center is the foreground app, the machine "goes to sleep" and can be awakened.  It disappears from the network, and nothing short of the reset button or power cycling helps.

I was doing a "analyze audio" of a bunch (more than 1000) of new files when this happened.

It does this to all tracks that it plays, by the way. I had a comment field filled in with MP8 and it looked good in my car's MP3 player, but when I use MC9, the comment field says 9.0.180. I don't want MC9 'branding' my MP3's. I want to be able to edit the tags the way I want to. And if I use a third party program to do it, guess what? MC9 changes it right back.

I will probably go back to MJ8 for now (unless they fix this within my 30 day trial) and if JRiver fixes this, I may purchase the upgrade to MC9. So far I like what I've seen in MC9 over MJ8, but I don't like having the comment tag overwritten by the player.
